odd really if you ask me improvements yes but still low specs over all they should just use gaming laptop hardware all ready buying the parts in bulk should make it affordable so they can keep it in with a consumer budget, and heck they could then set it up so over the years you could send them in to sony/xbox and pay a reasonable fee to have em put some new hardware into the system in order to make them last 10 years! these next gen councles will be out dated in abour 3 years time , i'm just glad i built my current fx8350/670 rig now thats future prof lol well some what:bang:

What, do you really think the price is only to cover hardware costs?
And when was the last time you have a proper gaming laptop under $600 that's not second hand?

They should have just focussed on gaming.
If the NEXT Box has an inferior spec to the PS4 and games look and play noticeably "less" than the Sony offering the rest of the Kinect add ons and other bells and whistles wont matter.
With next gen stuff like this with 5+ years life cycle, you have to go big or go home.
That's basic stuff MS.

To be much more powerful than PS4 isn't needed and will be practically pointless as nextgen games will be multiplattform anyway. Wii U will get stripped down graphics compared.

i'll hold my judgement until it's revealed, but this previous generation might end up being my last consoles...

Specs are academic to me, unless they come up and same that Xbox Live is now free there is no way I go MS this time around. Paying MS to play a game online is too ridiculous for me, and paying MS to have access to the netflix app is even more ridiculous.

Let me guess, it's going to be "amazing" like the PS4 and sport a "powerful" 1.6GHz Jaguar chip. :wanker:
A 1.6GHz Jaguar core is equal to what in performance? A 1GHz Haswell core?

This reminds me of the Sega Saturn.
Sega began development of their console unbeknownst that Sony were about to drop the Playstation onto the world. Sega had spent time on the 2D sprite, using some interesting (at the time) scaler technology and had not really gone for 3D in a big way. Their launch title was a 2D sideways-scrolling platform game; the Playstation had Ridgeracer and Nintendo (when they finally joined the party) had SuperMario64.
After the specs and rendering capabilities were revealed of the Playstation, Sega panicked and bolted a lot of technology onto the Saturn, which is why it was released with 2 main CPU's and 6 (yes, 6) sub processors so it could render 3D.
You need to remember, Sega thought they had the 5th console generation to themselves, thanks to Nintendo lagging their development of the N64 and now we got a situation where M$ are currently leading the race and all eyes are on them.
Pressure does strange things to people, especially where $ is involved, and I sense M$ is going to find it hard to trump Sony this time. Coupled to another manufacturer revealing their specs earlier than the current leader of the exiting generation of consoles, I believe M$ has two options: have a better line-up of exclusives or have better UI/functionality than the competition.
It's a sort-of irony; the only reason M$ are in the console market is because Sega screwed it up in '94 and again in '98 with the 'Dreamcast' - which led to Sega exiting the console market forever and leaving room for another player: M$.

Meh, I'll stick with PC gaming and leave the console games to the casual gamers.

@Neo Cyrus: The ps4 has 8gb of gddr5, the pc has the titan with 6gb of gddr5 - which sell for $1000+ on its own. Then theres the rest of the pc you need to pay for, then theres windows and driver overhead and so on.
Do the math, the pc doesnt have that many, if any so called innovating games more so thwn the ps3/360. The problem isnt gfx, its the risk involved with doing something new.
Game design imo is like the whole cod/fps thing, fps games get all the attention because they sell easily and that exactly the same with consoles - cheap and a mass market, so that where dev focus the most.
Cant blame them really.
I recently bought a ps3, played some Killzone 2 and 3 - 720p 30fps sure, but the best shooting **** in a barrel since friggin crysis 1 or even doom. Basic story, sub-par characters but the main point was focused on as a priority (shooting stuff) with so much effort by the devs that it just oozes with old school game design passion or whatever. The tank and mech parts were insane and the scale of the gaint robot in killzone 3 just had me stopping and staring that i was quite happy to get blown away by rockets just for another look at how much Gorilla games done with the ps3 tech.
Not even crysis 3 looked that epic.

Neo Cyrus, What is it as a gamer that you expect from gaming and/or developers for the price you pay?
Also, you should take a look at beyond: Two Souls, due for release on ps3.
Amazing what can be done on such old hardware when a dev knows how it all works, which is why im so excited for this new era of consoles. x86 - They know this stuff inside and out, all the more easier to develop for.
Oh yeah, completely agree on the jaggies and muddy textures. Found the solution that wroked for me was to use my pc screen, turn sharpness down just enough to hide the jaggies and just high enough to keep the text on screen from looking blurry. I also sat further from it than i normaly would too. Make the image darker to, so blacks are proper black and not dark grey.
I highly recommend that if you play consoles games, then spend sometime time messing with you screen setting and also the ingame gamma and brightness options.
Makes a big diff most of the time.
