Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers with AC Technology

Linksys announced the availability of the latest additions to its Smart Wi-Fi portfolio. The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1200 and AC 1750 are available immediately and the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1600, model EA6400, is planned for availability in late May. The new Smart Wi-Fi routers can be installed from virtually any device through browser-based set-up; and with Linksys SimpleTap, consumers can easily connect new devices to the home network through innovative ways, such as scanning a QR code or NFC tag. All new models feature industry-standard beamforming technology that significantly helps improve router speed, overall performance and wireless range in the home.

Intel has just released more details about the new Haswell  proccessors. It sets new benchmarks in terms of energy efficiency. The new C6 and C7 states are able to reduce the CPU power consumption to just 0.05A while previous Ivy Bridge processors draw up to ten times more minimum power.

AMD is to launch a new entry level SKU based on the Radeon HD 7730, a product to fill the gap between the Radeon HD 7670 and the Radeon HD 7750. Based on the 28nm Cape Verde GPU, this chip reportedly has 448 stream processors, 28 TMUs, 16 ROPs, a 128-bit memory bus, and 1GB GDDR5 memory.

Intel Haswell low power states could require a new PSU

Logitech is to release their latest WiFi router for the mass market. Codenamed LAN-W301NR, the device comes with four LAN ports, one Internet LAN port and single-band WiFi access point (2.4GHz – 300Mbps), and provides security through encryption using WEP (128/64bit), WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA2-PSK (AES). The LAN-W301NR will go on sale from early May for 4,410 Yen (about $44).

EVE Online Based TV Series and Comic Coming

Icelandic video game developer CCP Games plans to bring the science-fiction universe of EVE Online, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, to television using stories written by some of the game's more than 500,000 subscribers. CCP Games announced the news on Eve Online's Facebook page in a post saying the TV series will be "Based on a true story, 20,000 years into the future." CCP Games will create the TV series with director Baltasar Kormakur, whose 2012 film The Deep was Oscar-nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. 

Alongside the possibility of have a TV episode based off their stories, finalists will also be given a series of other bonuses from EVE Online as well. Players who come in 3rd-5th place will be given a 1-year free subscription to EVE Online. The 2nd place winner will receive a free 10-year subscription to EVE Online. The 1st place winner will receive a round trip for 2 to Reykjavik, Iceland, which includes airfare and hotel accommodations. He/She will have the chance to visit CCP's headquarters and meet and talk with senior developers, and will also receive a 10-year subscription to EVE Online. 

Eve Online reaches its 10-year anniversary in May. EVE Online's 19th expansion, Odyssey, arrives June 4.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mass production next month

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 SoC will hit mass production in late May. Qualcomm did not reveal which devices will use this new 28nm chip, but told the press that samples to benchmark will be available in June. What makes the 800 shine brighter than the 600 is its more powerful Krait 400 architecture, which can maintain a clock speed of up to 2.3GHz; but like before, the four cores are also clocked asynchronously for better power management.
