MS... stay calm. Hopefully Amazon will fail at the task, leaving the door open.

I'm getting a strong sense of Deja Vu here - wasn't this article already posted like 2 months ago?

not. a. chance. one of the primary reasons Amazon won was for technical superiority. yes, M$ has been at "the cloud" for just as long, but it is reliant on outdated and power-hungry infrastructure based on Intel. Amazon only uses AMD enterprise exclusively at this point, except for custom silicon both of which are superior and at lower power draw than M$/Intel. the same pattern will be repeating itself in E.U. for same reasons - you can't sneak M$ into the Paris Accords with its current farm not only that but AWS is the better web services company and it's not tied to sharepoint

Technical superiority is only one reason to award a contract, other things like trust or the absence of it and conflict of interests are big considerations given the probable length of term for this unit...I for one would put my money on MS over AWS most likely, AWS is looking more and more like an Oligarchy as every day passes and that creeps me out.

Didn't you see the latest report on CPU server market: AMD grabbed a nice chunk and is now running at whooping 12% market share, which means Intel still holds 88%. Which means what... 88% of the industry is stopid, and losing money and market share competing against those with AMD infrastructure?? When it comes to Amazon succeeding or not, the choice whether to use of AMD or Intel is thoroughly inconsequential. And they are not using AMD exclusively - i'm not even going to Google that - that's how certain I am you pulled that out of your hat 😉

market share does not dictate Amazon's needs, or their strategies, or their purchases. the scale of Amazon requires the best technology available and with a shorter usage case. they sell used servers more than anyone, literally. for the specific needs of Amazon the power is key and the efficiency differential between Intel and AMD is an added cost for Intel for power, heat, cooling and the space required including real estate as it would take More Intel cpus to equal the AMD cpus life is stranger than fiction, but always cost based. i'm surprised you didn't get the news years ago when Amazon became the largest buyer of Epyc OR when Amazon announced it was buying more next gen and buying custom silicon.

Also... Amazon has heavily invested in green power solutions as its server farms use industrial amounts of power. its pre-existing commitment was most definitely a factor over M$ as well as the lower operating costs which are significant on this scale which almost beggars belief until you see one of the farms and realize they have dozens of them across all of Amazon. and if the contract is big enough like the US gov't they'll build you some.

if you're going to stick with that nonsense that Amazon is using AMD exclusively 🙄, how about a link ?

Y'know...once upon a time, the US government developed their own technology and didn't give money to companies who were listed on the stock exchange, and so did not give money to the shareholders of companies. I think this 'giving tax payers money to shareholders' BS needs to stop, and the government of the US needs to be and act like the government. Think of all the government jobs it would create! On topic: I told you all there was a lot of money in cloud.

Wonder if Amazon would act more legit and pay all those taxes they avoid now

They have the ability to drop the presidents account to non-prime...I think their tax status will be just fine... [youtube=tDcGKFOtSMU]
