I updated my installation about three weeks ago and was forced to uninstall the update after it broke my startmenu and I couldn't fix it... Even now after I deleted it I get a short but still feels significant delay everytime I click on the start menu button... I believe it was KB4089848. Seems like they are having issues accross the board keeping Win10 stable and well..

Lucky me, I picked 17128 for last installation.

Better late than sorry.

No worries, i defer feature updates for 365 days =] I updated to Fall Creators Update just 2 weeks ago. Seems to run better than when i tried it on release. I will probably do the same with 1803, update just before the next big update.

Chances are .73 could already have it fixed acc. to Zac's post. Running 17331.73 myself atm, no issues that I know of so far. Used earlier 17127 build before (shortly) and no issues either. Hard to tell when no idea what that blocking bug is. Does something get 'blocked' that shouldn't or vice versa?

confirmed: redstone 4 and redstone 5 both suck. have tried them both fresh installed. they are both actually riddled with glitches, not just one. black screen / incorrect DPI / GSoD on startup at dual boot screen, glitchy start menu tiles, unable to connect to network drive. just to list a few off the top of my head, there was a longer list I had of like 10 more issues. lower benchmarks than redstone 3 by a bit, despite the new "ultimate performance mode" (if we're measuring with the final fantasy xv benchmark). don't update yet. even though rs4 has hit RTM. just wait for the official release by Microsoft with the service pack 1 or w/e they do to fix all this crap. I will probably be installing fresh again in a couple weeks. just be patient, or be disappointed and regret not waiting 2 weeks for your long awaited "clean" install like me. literally the only thing you're missing out on is being able to fullscreen MS Edge AND hover for the address bar (so innovative), and some frosty effect on some windows / minor UI adjustments. and whatever people icon / task view they're trying to add which I've never once touched except by mistake. lol. you'd hope for some real performance improvements with all the talk of game mode and ultimate performance mode but, no... it's just worse. maybe they're trying to mitigate whatever under the hood crap they had to do that's slowing things down. also this fits in nicely with my conspiracy theory that they purposefully gimp performance before major releases. I'm sure it'll be equal if not slightly better performance than rs3 (when it's all said and done they'll be like 'oooh so fast' which they're already hyping--yet it's not there yet). as for this "blocking bug" ... having tried rs4 and rs5 both, I have no idea what they're talking about. and they're probably being vague about it for a reason. probably because it's actually a long list of at least 15 issues (that I know of, probably more) that remain to be fixed. I def feel cock blocked by my gimped performance but other than that, nothing weird other than predictable performance and compatibility glitches that we are all familiar with by now which keep showing up, getting fixed, and showing up again in new versions... (p.s. if, like me, you're unable to connect to your Seagate external network drive, here is my trick that has helped me since rs3: first fresh install rs2, [I did mine w/ no updates offline w/ no Ethernet cord connected to tower or disabled wifi hardware switch on laptop, disabled windows updates asap after first login, then turned on internet] then connect to your network drive as normal w/ login, then update install your OS to rs3 rs4 or rs5 [you can even mount the ISO from your external hard drive and update that way]. then it works. kinda important that I'm connected to network drive...)

I'm using 17331.73 and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I do manage my user date in way, that I do not have problem to do new installation which is fully working within 20 minutes. Only thing I have to do is to redownload those few games I keep on OS SSD as 240GB is just a bit too large for OS itself 🙂

Let's wait until we actually know what the bug is before making a big deal about it.

"Cancel" seems quite the click-bait headline, doesn't it? Its merely delayed, afterall. Cancel would imply its never coming.

One individual, one statistic = useless conclusion. Now if 1000 reported the same glitches, then you can reach a 'conclusion'. RS5 (beta) glitches expected, to say it 'sucks' as if its supposed to be polished is laughable. RS4 working fine here.

I agree with this. Wrong word. It makes the title click-baity and sensational. It was delayed not cancelled.

I actually like Microsoft, rs4, and rs5. I get that this is beta. and my experience has been largely 'fine' too. yet I am frustrated with these glitches that keep appearing over and over again in new versions. (this is the price I pay for beta testing new features, but that won't stop me from communicating or even complaining about them lol). just listing issues I have had, relating to human beings on a human level in a forum, and even included a fix for one of them. I am a fanboy and an apologist, yet I won't pretend like these issues don't exist. I find it constructive to share them. so sorry for the hyperbole in saying that it "sucks" … it doesn't. it's just not done yet. if you haven't installed it yet, I would recommend like most people do to wait 2 more weeks for the official RTM + service pack to avoid possible glitches and performance issues such as those I listed (and more, like the one in this news item--which, again, I haven't seemed to notice at all). enjoy!

Well I just saw this as: "MS cancels winows 10 spying update" 😉 Weird...
data/avatar/default/avatar26.webp
I used the media creation tool with a mod file to download RS4 a few days ago, installed it on a 2nd drive. So far there have been 0 issues with it. I'll probably wait for 2 or 3 cumulative updates before I upgrade the primary install.

Once Microsoft verified the problem has been fixed, Windows 10 version 1803 will be released somewhere this month.
We know what you are doing Hilbert.:p

I've been running 1803, 17133.1 for several days now--no problems whatsoever installing or otherwise--best version of Win10, yet--just continues to get better. Backwards game compatibility is far superior to Windows 7--or even 8, for that matter (and 8 was better than 7, imo.) Yesterday, Microsoft introduced a cumulative update for the build that took it from 17133.1 to 17133.73--installed without a hitch. I've been beta testing Win10 for three years + now (started 10/2014), and it's been so long since the last noticeably buggy beta version I used that I cannot recall when that was, actually. If there are problems for people, I've noticed, they are almost always with laptops requiring custom drivers from their respective OEMs and the main problem seems to be that laptop owners either don't know that or choose not to believe it...Do not ask me why that is because I could not tell you...;)

Indeed, well technically, no official source has said it is delayed or anything, they just happened to release another update to fix an issue only to insiders. The fact that everybody was expecting a release on Patch Tuesday like normal does not actually make it late or anything, unless MS actually come out and say the words delayed or cancelled, despite what we expected or where hinted at :P If they announced it released and published 1803 ISOs in MSDN etc. and then pulled them it would be a different story 😉

Enough time to play with a few Linux distributions (never mind) only took me two hours to realize why I went back to Windows 10 in the first place...
