Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't a footprint the horizontal profile of a case?
Relatively speaking, that's not small at all--I'm sure you can argue semantics and specs, but I would think conventional towers would have smaller footprints that cases with horizontal motherboard orientations.

Even regular tower should look compact compared to this, especially as the shortest of dimensions is kinda big (http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-v33/ - WxHxD are 33x35x39 cm)
Are components and filters easily accessible? Yes!
Is it compact? Hell no!
Yeah. however you define it, it looks kinda big from the top, using quite a lot of desk/floor area. Slim cases use way less space, eg. this one:
