We can claim whatever we want to be on the internet, but sorry you didn't use your OLED within reasonable tolerances. I'll bet you had the color gamut set to Wide and the OLED light over 50% in SDR content. I'll let you know when my CX OLED gives out. Might be a few years at 7/100 oled light.
It really doesn't sound that good when you basically tell someone a version of "you're holding it wrong" when those settings are available on the TV itself and are supposed to be totally within spec.

if only LG would listen... people are literally willing to put up with a 48" TV on their desk just to get an actual upgrade from the LCD wasteland we call monitors all seemingly because of the non ending mob of "burn in burn in burn in" experts at every mention of OLED, just like every damn monitor has an AH3 mudcoat now because 15 years ago no LCD had enough brightness and so the usual fanatical herd complains at every glossy monitor there is/was ever since, yet is constantly using a glossy phone under direct sunlight and praising iMacs for their "amazing displays"

It's up to the informed consumer of how to take care of their purchase. Knowing the technology makes it easier to care for it. Seems like they didn't care for their purchase, they even stated they watched too much soccer. Do you think 100% color, brightness, contrast, etc. is within spec? it definitely won't look realistic. Sure, you can set it that way if you prefer, but its not LG's fault that you didn't decide to use the TV within reasonable tolerances that won't make it last as long.

Do you expect a car to last as long driving it at 100mph versus 60mph?

It's not really the same thing. If we compare an LCD TV to an OLED TV (much more appropriate), then that would be a better comparasion.

It is if you are referring to the context of how you use something, which can apply to all things that were designed with certain tolerances and does not matter if it is LCD, OLED, Toyota, GMC, etc. It is your preference of how you want something to perform. But don't get mad at the company who made the product because you chose to use it outside of their recommendations.

Let's think of an occasion here that will happen and rightly so. A older fellow walks into a TV store and is attracted to an OLED display. The clerk oversells the product as usual and the guy gives in and purchases it. Of course the person trying to sell the TV would not say "oh by the way, you can't do this, this or that, but you can do this just don't do that as well", etc, etc. So the guy gets home and sets the TV up. No warning or anything regarding screen burn during setup. After a few months the TV has permanent screen burn. Who is at fault here? The old guy?

And that would be an example to the grey area. Who knows if its even the manufacturer's fault that the clerk is misinforming? Innocent until proven guilty. Sales people may misinform you to make a sale, it happened when i was trying to buy HDMI cables with my grandmother at an electronics store and they recommended the 80$ monster-branded cables over their in-house $17 ones. The $17 ones have been working for 7 years now and i'll never forget the words the sales person said that it was her money, let her decide. I agree it is her money, but i just saved her the extra unnecessary expense. It was up to her who to trust. As a consumer, it is within your total right to fact check what the sales person is saying and your responsibility to research what you plan to buy.

If the technology can be shrunk, something like this for handheld consoles and telephones would be pretty interesting.

Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? Someone abused their TV by watching too much soccer? Please stop defending this bullshit, denial is part of the reason why the industry doesn't move forward.

Denial is not reading the first page.

OLED is trash. QLED is superior. I got my first green pixels burned because I watch too much soccer every weekend. It couldn't handle so much green those leds. Pathetic. Only a year of smooth operation with moderate usage.

I should apologize for using 6 extra hours each Saturday and Sunday. 12extra hours each weekend or 60 hours per month or about 720 hours per year. Out of specs yeah alright. I deserve millions of dead pixels at its fifth year after purchase. 🙂

But do it's 'flaws' outweigh the difference in image quality you get over an LCD (infinite contrast, much lower response time, near-perfect viewing angles)? If you use it responsibly, its 1 'flaw' will not be an issue. OLED is only going to become more popular until microLED is as affordable.

It is rather subjective ... The way i use my monitor i will ruin an oled one in 6 months 😛 . And i am not willing to change how i use my monitor i personally like ips even if the blacks are not true blacks etc i do not really mind.

They might, and they might not. The real problem I see is pushing OLED as the only real option on midrange / high-end smartphones despite literally every OLED phone reporting some degree of burn-in over time. On a desktop, I would never touch an OLED display unless it just did not have any burn-in no matter how I used it. I am not going to remove all static elements from my desktop environment just to treat the display properly. That gets in the way of convenience, it gets in the way of work, and in this case - no, it's not worth the difference in image quality.
