Great news! I've been waiting years for Microsoft.14822C0D9D6C2 to be released!

This better not be Games for Windows Live (GFWL) 2.0!

Well, I bought Gears of War: Ultimate Edition from the Microsoft Store today and it works quite well. (That was on my work computer that has only a HDD 7770 1GB Card.) Downloading it now to play on my 980 Ti at 4k on my home computer. 🙂 You know, all you have to do is replace MS with Steam in these comments and you get the exact same attitude as when Steam was first released. Selective memory seems to be common around these parts.

Steam has never forced me to install a new unwanted non functional operating system to purchase video games, with that said I have installed a new Operating System to take advantage of new hardware, if there is a game that requires DirectX 12 to function I will probably install it again.. Steam has never closed down, making lots of video games dead, then re-opened with a new name and then start doing the same thing all over again as if the first time never happened... in your words "Selective memory seems to be common around these parts. " These are things Microsoft have done, and I fear they will do it again. If I end up being incorrect, so be it, if my fears become true, I would not have wasted money because I choose not to buy into this pathetic locked down platform.

Yet. If he was not making money on it, what motivation would have he have to continue it. Please, do not claim Steam is some altruistic savior because, it is not. Also, where is the phone support number for Steam? Guess there isn't one but hey, who needs support, right? Sheez, I have 63 steam games but no recourse if Gabe decided to shut down steam tomorrow. I guess you choose to buy into a locked down system anyways. Tell me, can you take your game purchases off of Steam and play then like GoG games?

Yes, if it is Singleplayer.

Yes, if it is Singleplayer.
Literally copy it, remove Steam from your computer and then install and play it anywhere you like?

Proof? I am quite serious about this.

I need to provide you with proof that Cracks exist? While it's true you cannot crack every single video game, especially new games that implement Denuvo, the majority of video games can be cracked... if you wish to Install Steam, Purchase a game, download it, copy the game files to another hard drive, crack it, uninstall Steam, then play the game without Steam... then you can do that. In time even Denuvo will be cracked so games that implement it will be able to be played without needing Steam. Then there is offline mode, if you purchase a game, download it.. you can then play that game without needing the internet.. I do this quite a bit. For me, I really like the Workshop on Steam, it is great for downloading mods and uploading my own creations and sharing them with other people. I have been using Steam since it was launched, it's just a great platform for buying games and interacting with friends.

Non functioning OS? I've been using it since long before it's official release and it is functioning well. Are there some problems, sure, but 'non functional' implies that it doesn't work and that is simply not true. I have many, many games on Steam over 2 accounts, if Steam shut down tomorrow, I would not be able to play a lot of them and I would no longer have the convenience of having them seamlessly updated etc etc. Steam is not your friend, they take advantage of gamers in many ways, the total lack of quality control being the most egregious. It would have been the lack of a refund policy but thankfully, that has been remedied. I don't really have a problem with MS selling their products in their own store as long as it is done properly (AKA not the GFWL disaster train). It is their right to do so and it is your right to abstain, make no mistake; but please don't try to paint Steam as the patron saint of gamers, that is a joke in very bad taste.

Non functioning OS?...
Not really saying that steam is some savior of PC (and I do remember the backlash when HL2 was released), but that being said they have been around for quite some time and you know what to expect from them. Similar to MS and their GFWL. Plus there is a huge difference when MS has complete controll over the OS that basically everyone is gaming on. If steam decided to do some BS, the'll loose customers to competition. If MS decides to restrict games distribution on Windows to only through their app store, there is very little you can do. I don't really care if it is just another form of distribution as MS doesn't really offer interesting titles (at least for me), but since they own the OS, that is quite concerning.

I don't see MS usurping Steam, Origin et al. The backlash would be extremely damaging to a company that already has numerous PR and customer perception issues Everyone took a swing at Origin when it first arrived but tbh, Origin's Great Game Guarantee is probably one of the more prominent reasons that Steam adopted a refund policy so that was a win/win. If MS tries to monopolize the digital distribution platform arena, I'll be the first to complain, but that is a long way off if it even happens at all. Cheers 🙂

It is obvious I was not clear I what I was referring too which is, no cracks at all, just doing it exactly as GoG does. Clearly, you cannot without what would be deemed an illegal method by Gabe. Also, I like steam but, many more did not when it started and to be honest, the only reason I have the games I have with them is one word: sales! 😀

If by "non functional" you mean Windows 10, you couldn't be further from the truth. For the great majority, it works flawlessly. I know it does for me. I even have it on a 10 year old single core laptop and it runs just as well as XP did on the same machine. I have zero problems with Microsoft releasing their games any way they want to. If the games work, that's all that matters to me. I'm eagerly awaiting that free Forza game.

What you find "Functional" I do not... it is not worth arguing about, it is simply a fact.

I understand what you mean, you mean just taking the game and starting it from the exe without having to crack it, which the majority of games will not allow you to do... although I think there are a few that you can actually just start them from the exe without the need of Steam.
