Well, it could use DDR5 so that guarantees another LGA and chipset. Bring it on, Intel, we need more hardware and true innovative solutions.

lol intel has "fixed" 7nm? more like TSMC has put them on the right track and AMD has shown how its done with Chiplets lets hope Intels "glue" holds together...pathetic no innovation just copying

I am excited by this. I'm glad Intel is still going all in with their independent manufacturing rather than rely on others in the future. Sounds like they have big plans and that's awesome. Hopefully in the next few years they will be a full-blown CPU/GPU powerhouse.

I once again fear the prices of ddr5 and pcie 5.0 you saw what happened when boards switched to pcie 4.0, the cost went at least 50% up on z490,b550 and x570. ddr5/pcie5 boards will start at $250-300. those who are skipping r5000 and 11th gen cause they're expensive have seen nothing yet.

Not like they would really have a choice. The lack of manufacturing capacity in the whole industry is by now chronic. There's simply no external manufacturer they could rely on. AMD has been forced to realise that as well when there would be a much bigger market ready and waiting, but they can't satisfy the market at all. Much of it is due to GlobalFoundries suddenly backstabbing AMD by dropping out of the cutting edge race.

So who was innovative? AMD? Chiplets isn't their invention, in fact Intel had that concept years ago in a released CPU, the time just wasn't right for it.

New CEO new talks about unreleased cpu architectures. How long have they been talking about 10nm? Is 10nm fixed and ready on desktop yet? Gosh I've missed so much over tha last few days it seems:D

In related news, Intel are spending $20 billion on 2 massive new chip plants in Arizona, which should address the world-wide chip shortage (in long term at least). About time TSMC had new rivals. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/23/intel-is-spending-20-billion-to-build-two-new-chip-plants-in-arizona.html
Honestly, I saw that coming, I only thought it would happen sooner. They're getting money from the gvnmt to help them get things rolling anyway, which should help my speculation of rising INTC share value in 2021 after the 30+% dip in 2020.

Like i said , despite everything it is good moment to upgrade if you are not yet on new platform . Good moment to get top B-DIE, B550 or Z490/590 board, get good CPU and you are set for at least few years . Maybe till then DDR5 PCIE5 platform will be more mature .

On track? Yeah, like we haven't heard that before. Only difference is now Intel has pretty much all new management, and, they were able to use TSMC to realize what they were doing wrong at 10nm. I don't think we'll be waiting as long for 7nm but let's just say I won't be surprised if we're still seeing new 14nm parts by the time the first 7nm chip is released.

The cost went up because PCIe 4.0 has much stricter tolerances for the motherboard. To my understanding, the tolerances between 4.0 and 5.0 are much lesser, so I don't expect we'll see much of a price hike here (compared to 4.0 boards).

I get jaded about the amount of negativity in this forum. So what they are behind but still making strides? Did any of you engineer or can come close to engineering a CPU on this concept? We are so spoiled we just nag and nag. I'm on the Red Team atm but please show some humility when you have no concept on how to engineer these processors. Edit: before your hate filled replies JUST DON'T BUY THEIR PRODUCT.

Once Intel begins to use a chiplet design, the battle between then and AMD is going to be very interesting. Of course, they need to deliver their stuff on time first...

I know what you mean. PC hardware enthusiast forums are always filled with cynicism and negativity. This hobby attracts certain type of personalities and there isn't much to be done about it. I just try to not spend too much time reading such forums because it's bad for mental health and sanity.

Yup, im holding onto my 8700k thats oc for a while then, i'll just focus on gpu's for next 2 years (skipping the 30 series)

2023 assuming no delays. I have a feeling if AMD aren't slacking they're going to continue making Intel look stupid. This isn't good for our wallets. As much as we hate Intel for raping us of all dignity during their 11 year monopoly of nearly the entire CPU demographic, let's not forget that AMD is just going to keep jacking up prices if Intel continue to fail to compete. And I said it before and I said it again, big/little doesn't belong on a desktop; I'd rather have a proper architecture better suited for that environment.

I'm pissed off at Apple, who have so much money they could easily do this. But they continue to use and overwhelm TSMC for chip manufacture for their devices. Not only that, they outbid everyone to get a much higher % of TSMC production capacity and have booked most of the 5nm and all of the 3nm output of TSMC. Therefore Apple are the real villains imo and are responsible for much higher prices of all electronics as a result.

The sad part is, I think you can mostly find this type of behavior in any "enthusiast" community, not just the PC community. When people are passionate about something, they have opinions that clash with the opinions of others. The fact that everyone is anonymous doesn't lend itself to basic niceties either. Not much to be done about it except trying to have an open mindset to the opinion of others, or just ignoring comments you don't agree with.

It's far better than sport fans, music subcultures and a like. AMD vs Intel flame wars are actually pretty civilized.
