Number of threads of TRs seem to be switched.

Clock speeds are too low for me. I won't be buying any of the i9's. Hopefully the Coffee Lake CPU's won't be as disappointing.

I can't help but feel that Intel is being rather hasty since AMD launched their new chips.

@RavenMaster
even before we knew exact clock speeds, why would "you" be interested in any type of intel at all ? (maybe the i9-7980, as amd only offers 16C for consumers).
But even then, i can get two 1920X rigs for the price of one 18C intel.
Besides the board related "trouble" (vrms), you get less lanes, higher power consumption and producing more heat, all while costing more than the amds.
Just curious...

i will not be supporting intel for a very long time now. Sold all my intel stuff and got 1500k for it on ebay.
so that paid for my ryzen stuff. threadripper is next.
my money goes to the company that deserves it.

Well said Silva (and a few others). Even the most ardent Intel fan boy surely has to admit that Intel have milked it for a few years now and oh my hasn't it been both obvious and boring.

Look, all bad things aside. On the Intel 18c CPU I'm sure no one thought it will have boost clocks that high. I wonder what the reason will be then for their low base clocks? Can it be that the CPU's actually have a heat issue and that is why the base clocks is that low and the CPU can only boost at high clocks for a few seconds until it has to down clock? Then again on the AMD side you get the 16c that will boost to 4.0Ghz with no heat issues and it cost half the price of the Intel 18c. I can't see the reasoning for going the Intel route. Even if money was no object, just the mere fact that you are getting screwed over so badly it's not even funny is enough not to go the Intel route.
Jagman
^ Exactly, they must have a heat issue.

Is there even a point in releasing these CPUs? With the heat problems Intel has deliberately produced these things have to be clocked low to avoid burning up. Will 18 cores clocked lower use significantly less power than a higher clocked 10 core if you're trying to reach the exact same multi threaded performance? That's the only way these would make any sense to me, considering that the 10 core is so hard to keep cool enough if you overclock it. Seems like a bad deal anyway, given the price difference.

I9s are simpl a failure , a very immature release , remind of Pentium D .. ovens

any of you care to guess what would happen if intel did price all there products to directly compete with AMD?
there would be complaints from AMD that intel is using its size and money to stifle competition and trying to have a monopoly on the market, so government agencies would be involved, and courts etc, after all its not as if AMD hasn't done it before, just as other have with Microsoft etc etc.
