@b101uk except that one company having 10-30% of the market is NOT a monopoly. besides that, intel would lower prices AFTER amd released their products, so no problem there. and someone that makes 9B/y really doesn't have to do it that obviously, that average joe will notice it. enough companies out there, that can get "special" deals as happened in the past.

I'm sure you can Sync All Cores to 4GHz, which will give you a nice boost.
Sure, and you can expect nice boost for power consumption too. If 8C/16T does 4GHz on all cores with 150W, then you can expect 16C/32T @4GHz to eat good 280W. When intel announces platform with CPU eating up to 170W, I expect some MB manufacturer to make board capable to deliver 220W, but 280W or more? This is not race where Power consumption matters little as in 4C/8T. 10C/20T and more cored chips face this limitation. And this high core count platform behaves in similar fashion as notebooks where power efficiency matters as there are certain power consumption targets based on market segment (15W vs. 25W vs. 45W targets).

The average person is going to buy Intel because that is all they know. You get your average lump walk into an electronics store and say gee I need a computer but not sure what I want. 9 times out of 10 the goons in the store are going to sell you an Intel product. We all have seen the saturated t.v. commercials with "Intel inside". When was the last time you saw an AMD commercial? We all know the Intel jingle da da dum. Anybody tell me the AMD jingle? This is why Intel tops in sales. They get their products word out. Enthusiasts like us are hyper informed of all computing hardware and make a highly informed decision before making a purchase. My three sisters and my mother have no clue how to even turn a computer on, let alone make a decision on Intel or AMD cpu's. Intel has delivered on their products for the most part and the average person will repurchase a product that has served them well. There are more "average" computer customers than enthusiasts. Thus Intel thrives because of this. Slow and steady cpu releases so the cattle could keep up with the information and not be spooked away to another cpu company. Intel greedy yes, Intel smart business plan yes yes! I am by no means an Intel fanboy/girl, All of my computers have been AMD cpu run. Except for my current cpu because AMD had no equal to the 4790k for my needs at the time I purchased it. I in fact will be returning to AMD as soon as threadripper comes out and I will make my decision and purchase of an AMD cpu after that.

judging of the thermals of the 10 core cpu is not surprising this one has such low base clocks i mean with just some easy math is easy to see that clocking this cpu on 5ghz all cores is possible but you are very close on hitting a temperature that can ignite the earth and start nuclear fusion turning earth into a molten fireball ! so most likely 4.9 will be the limit !

I really really doubt they will be faster than TR. Remember TR has the clock advantage (unlike with Ryzen). The 4k+ turbos are only for 1 core but boosting 1 core in a 10+ CPU makes absolutely no sense (except for idiots buying an I9 or TR for gaming XD).
Turbo Boost 3.0 applies to two cores, pushing them both to 4.4-4.5ghz allowing for great multi-core potential without having to sacrifice single-threaded speed.

Clock speeds are too low for me. I won't be buying any of the i9's. Hopefully the Coffee Lake CPU's won't be as disappointing.
I'm aligning with fry178's post here. How exactly are these clocks too low? First of all, are you not aware you can OC these parts? Nothing is stopping you from going higher except for thermals, and considering the turbo speeds, there seems to be sufficient headroom for a respectable clock. Also, I really don't understand the mentality of people whining about clock speeds on a 36 thread CPU. Seriously, 4.4GHz isn't good enough for you? Honestly, what are you doing that requires so many threads at such a high speed? I know Intel made a lot of mistakes with this platform, and I would almost unanimously recommend Threadripper over this, but people are seriously critical over the most ridiculous things and take way too much for granted.
