EDIT: Nevermind

Overclocked, it's still the fastest quadcore cpu ever made 🙂 For me, quadcore is so 2007. I'm using 7980xe for my workstation 🙂
The problem is that those CPUs already existed on a much cheaper platform (Z270). I have an overclocked 7600K and i´m very happy with it but i didn´t have to buy a more expensive platform (X299) for it... That´s why those CPUs were really stupid, because they weren´t needed.

Optane is pretty sad. Intel keeps putting it out there and it keeps getting rejected. It's like a guy desperately trying to woo a girl that he can never get. The sooner Intel gives up on it, the better off they will be.
The lower sized Optane drives for cache purposes is also a very stupid and sad idea... As for Itanium, from what i understand the idea was good but the execution... Not to mention that Intel was a victim of what killed all the other players who wanted to compete with Intel, X86 compatibility. The irony...

No!.....Grrrrr...Now you got me wondering what you were thinking???...I'm OCD on stuff like that...:D
Haha I realized I was wrong in what I was saying in my post so I removed it.

Wouldn't be the first time. There's also XScale (Intel's ARM platform). I'm sure the FPGAs they got from Altera are next if they're not careful.

I blame AMD. If they didn't come up with x86-64 then Intel could have very well shoved Itanium down the industry's throat. It's probably because of AMD that we're all still using x86 (not that it's a bad thing).

And those dern 6-8 core mainstream CPUs too! Dern you AMD!!

They must have sold so many of them, they just can't keep up with demand so they had to retire it.

Dang , this was a short lived cpu :/

Optane is another thing that comes to my mind, they try so hard pushing it and its still a flop, no?
Optane has 2 massive strengths: 1. In 4KQ1T1 it absolutely decimates anything else on the market and in terms of what benchmarks translate into actual tangible positive user experience, 4KQ1T1 is where its at. 2. With this preview of what is to come you can bet your ass that Samsung will be engineering their butts off to create a competing product before Optane becomes widely adopted in future incarnations. As it stands now Optane suffers from annoying form factors, limited use cases, pathetic capacities and ridiculous prices. The underlying technology is outstanding and as a preview product for a few select users it is pretty cool. I do believe that Intel came to market with Optane an entire generation too soon. If the prices were the same and the capacities were doubled things would have gone a lot better for this product.

*edit* Opps wrong thread..

On other hand it was like the APU on AM4 socket... an old processor on new socket to make people wait for real new CPU.

The most important flawn of Optane is the Intel only... Despite the high price (well... not so for a company in fact) it can't be future proof for an infrastructure that can move on ARM, AMD or whatever...

More accurate title: AMD retires Intels Kaby Lake-X processors.

No, I have 3x intel 900p optane 480GB... If you don't know if you need it, then you don't 🙂
Just saying being a fanboy is yesterday’s thing. Like burning your cash, it’s yours to do so. Rant aside... That cpu made no sense whatsoever. Then again, a company that sells refined 10yrs old hexcore designs as revolutionnary makes no sense either. Panic move much on Intel’s part when Ryzen hit. It’s about time quads slowly get phased out by hexes.

EOL after 10 months? Intel really shows how much it likes to support their products beyond launch time sales...

It was rather pointless for Intel to release two Quad core CPUs with the Kaby Lake X Series because Z series boards had those all ready plus they were cheaper. Plus in my mind the X-series of boards shouldn't have gone below 6 cores now. I could understand why they had quad core CPUs with older generation X series platform but not modern ones like Kaby Lake.
