Such a grossly impractical and inefficient design. This is what hubris and complacency does to a company.

No one cares Intel.

"14900KS is poised to claim the title of the World's fastest gaming CPU" I'm sure somebody/somewhere might care.

I bet it still looses to 7800x3d and the 9000 zen5 cpus are coming. Intel is done. 🙂

Awesome! And its unlocked so you can overclock it to consume even more electricity!

Looks like you cared, when you posted in 14900ks news thread 😛 14900ks could be a nice upgrade for people with lower tier 12 series cpu. 14900ks is going to be high binned cpu, so that mean lower powerdraw if you are underclocking the cpu 🙂 Example : 0.1v less voltage for the same frequency means way colder cpu and less powerdraw. Memory performance is still meta for gaming. That's why my 13900k with 8400mhz max tuned is faster than my 7800x3d with max tuned ddr5.

Man I wish I lived in cold climate where I can enjoy the warm emitted by the 14900KS 😛

My 7800x3d is actual hotter than my 13900k in games in therm of temperature, due to the stupid thick ihs on the cpu. Same game: 55c on 13900k and 65c on 7800x3d. 115w vs 65w LOL

115W is the part where I'm more concerned, my AC runs 24/7 and on hot summer days where outside temp is ~40C, cooling both the room and PC is quite a challenge. So yeah efficiency does matter where I'm at, I would rather lose 5% perf than having my room heating up slowly 😀

The problem is that the performance difference between this CPU and the "normal" 14900K is so small that it becomes pointless... People are just better off buying the regular 14900K.

But 500w gpu is fine hehe....

That is very niche. A person buying a lower tier 12 series would probably have bought it with DDR4, if DDR5 then super expensive 6000 at the time and a fairly cheap mainboard and a mid tier cooler. Throwing a 14900KS into something like that would make very little difference compared to a 14900k. The KS has better bin yes, so it might save 30 Watts at full speed and clocked lower to match the K version. (5-10W in gaming) But the price of a KS (when comparing the 13th K vs KS) makes it almost possible to buy a 7950X3D and a mainboard for the same money as the 14th KS alone.

I run 4090 heavily undervolted, with FPS cap + DLSS2 Balanced + FG power consumption actually never exceeded 300W @ 4K 😛.

It's fine as long as these are only limited to enthusiasts - but at some point, it will become acceptable for your run of the mill parts to use obscene amounts of energy, and then it will no longer be fine.

Same here I cap my performance at 4k 120hz in vermitide 2 with 4090 suprim liquid and 7800X3D and use around 300 watts of power max settings although with dlaa on it goes up to 350 watts total system power.

Really my 7800X3D on air with noctua d15 doesn't go above 75*C even after long game sessions and doesn't throttle as well as doesn't add too much heat to the ambient room temperature using core temp max temp reading. Usually hovers around 50*C. Hey looks at this article i9s are crashing gaming sessions in Unreal engine and othe engines from Fatshark etc. https://www.techspot.com/news/101978-newer-high-end-intel-cpus-crashing-unreal-engine.html Imagine paying more for inferior gaming experience?

Glad someone with both CPUs posted this. Raptor Lake is the fastest gaming CPU when paired with approximately tuned memory, and it doesn't need to be DDR5 8000+ either. The memory just needs to be tuned into the mid to low 50ns range and it will outperform the 7800X3D with similarly tuned memory.
