Truly Amazing.

Anandtech's lot got 5.1 stable out of their sample.

LoL- another Tick(8700K) and Tock(8086K) producs from WalletRipper... For last 10 years the main improvement from Intel is the core clock, every time little boost on the core clock and you got new processor with new chipset and motherboard !

That's a little shaddy i have to admit, wonder if they over clock better? Still fine with my 8700k running 4.7ghz all cores, haven't had any reason to boost past that

Intel had this for years, they just sandbagged performance to be able to release new processors plus chipset every year and make money. Now that AMD closed in and their 10nm tech is a failure, it's total panic mode to get attention and a quick buck out of the cheep. Long live competition, as no company should be left to rule for too long!

Holy shit. Just... wow. Actually: just... NO. Waiting for Ryzen2 🙂

They are binned parts so theoretically, yes. But I'm guessing you'll only get an extra few hundred MHz, so I don't think the price difference is worth it. Keep in mind, the 8700K is also binned from the 8700, so you already have a higher quality part to begin with.

"Amazing to see huh? Yeah, I nearly purchased one..." - HH Let's give this guy a medal! He looked at the specs before he ran out and made an uninformed purchase! He's definitely got some sensational news story here - better jump on the bandwagon! You can do better than this. Since so many don't seem to understand, I'll spell it out. It's a novelty product - a gimmick. "A gimmick is a novel device or idea designed primarily to attract attention or increase appeal, often with little intrinsic value." - wikipedia "A gimmick is a marketing strategy designed to attract customers. It is part differentiation, part positioning and part creative advertising" - chron.com I don't understand people with these expectations that are based on nothing but their own unfounded assumptions.

Just as a point of reference...My 8700K regularly runs all cores @4.5GHz with a couple going higher to 4.6GHz while playing BF1. I saw a single-core high of 4.7GHz on only two occasions in the two months I've had the 8700K. The only item I changed in the UEFI screen was enabling XMP so my memory runs at its rated 3000MHz speed; no overclock on the CPU. At any rate, my 8700K CPU runs better than advertised. I imagine the 8086K would run at a bit higher frequency on all cores (maybe 4.7GHz?), but is it worth the $$? The returns are diminishing as one goes higher up the performance ladder?

So classic for intel.

How do you know they are better binned? Do you have statistics to support this theory? The latest intel stunts would lead me to believe they are charging a premium only for different packaging, label, and single core turbo increased, and that's it. Unless there is statistical data supported that they will on average OC better, I'll just leave it as a rumor.

Nothing new here Intel up to their old tricks trying to rip off the customers

You sure are getting defensive over something so unimportant... Anyway, this very article (among dozens of others - just google "8086k binned") all claim they're "better-binned" parts, and I don't think such an assumption is all that questionable. Regardless, it doesn't matter if they're better binned or not - they're still a waste of money.

Seems like the smart thing to do is buy a binned 8700k from siliconlottery.com and let Intel sell this anniversary model to those less informed.

They probably ARE better binned - in that they manage to get 5GHz turbo on one core.

Seems really strange that your CPU boosts in BF1 to 4.5-4.6GHz. I thought the game is good at multithreading and CPU-hungry (don't have it myself). Even on games that are older/light on the CPU, my 8700K would rarely venture above 4.4GHz, and 4.3GHz is standard for all the latest 2017-2018 AAA games I have (like AC:Origins, Deus Ex, FFXV, Kingdom Come Delieverance). The 8700K is not really running "better than advertised" either. The 3.7GHz base speed is there for a reason - namely stress testing and AVX. Running the latest Prime95 SmallFFTs for example will quite quickly bring a 8700K to 3.7-3.9GHz, because of its conservative 95W limitations. We're "lucky" that games and most workflows don't use AVX so we see these higher speeds routinely, as if the CPU is a 4.3GHz part and not 3.7GHz. I am using quotation marks for "lucky" though, because from what I have heard, we would actually be better served with AVX and lower clocks. Apparently the CPU throughput would be significantly higher if we would have games that can take advantage of AVX, even at the lower clocks, although I am not really sure how that works.

Well that's nothing, unless these 8086K's are binned better than 8700K's then this little launch accounts for zero in my eyes.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/223/223196.jpg
Well, there are still games out there that know nothing of multithreading and will only need one core as high as possible. I guess that CPU has a niche.

With the 8700K you can sometimes buy a golden chip. With the 8086K you know you get a golden chip. Mine runs 100% stressed with XTU @ 35 degrees C @ 1.056V. It overclocks to 5.1 @ 56 degrees C. Yes, it's 75 euro more but if you want a good overclocker or a really quiet system, IMHO it's worth it!

Nope. Pretty much every 8700k can get 5ghz no issue. As can the 8600k.
