PCIE4 is already outdated with PCIE5. Perhaps Intel is waiting it out a bit.
A new socket will hopefully bring an improved IHS. And thanks to AMD being competitive, pricing should be good.

PCIe 5.0 is highly unlikely, I doubt we’ll even see it appear before 2023.

Would like to see PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 as I am not sure if I want to get the last iteration from AMD or just wait until DDR5 is out. ! But then again .... when it will release I will need to wait for second generation so that the flows are cut out. Dammm .... I will never be happy with what I got or what I can get 😀

125W ? Now that Ryzen is rirising, i feel like we're going back to the old Bulldozer era (which I don't think was REALLY that much of a failure).
Intel new 125W bulldozer era coming ? More watt, "lower" performance for higher price ? I'm curious about their FX 9590 tho 😀
(even that was better than what they will offer right now... at least that was the first 5GHz CPU, maybe intel's chance to make first 6 GHz one? from 125W to 225W, with "bios updates")

Exactly. Which makes it not having PCIE4 a moot point. There isn't broad support for this anyway.

How is it a moot point when it's backwards compatible? My 4.0 drives will still be faster for me now and on PCIE5 and PCIE6 while it's not on Intel. You keep repeating this idea that PCIE4 doesn't matter and I don't understand why when I'm getting direct benefits from it literally right now and if I keep these drives on every future specification that both Intel/AMD will support.

You don't need to go back that far in history and experts laughed at the idea of personal computers in people's homes. Surely computers were only meant for universities, military, other significant research centers, and big company headquarters. We can't have much development with such attitudes. PCIe 3.0 has already been around for a while. Intel is absolutely the last entity who should have any say in it. Thanks to Intel PC CPU tech was stalling for years because they refused to move forward without AMD constantly kicking their behind.

Thanks Intel that should stop all the people griping about AMD not having backwards PCI 4.0 compatibility allowed into older motherboards. Intel is like here is a new socket and you will like it.
I love the Intel supporters now that AMD has PCIE 4.0 they are like yeah its not useful. Wait when Intel comes out with PCIE 4.0 they will be like its the best thing Intel did in the last 5 years. PCIE 4.0 isn't that big of a deal yet but you get it with AMD and if you buy into AMD's 8 or 12 core CPU's now you will have a CPU that could easily last 6-8 years and having PCIE 4.0 onboard will support any future GPU or SSD upgrades for the life of the machine.
