Why the change from K to C to denote whether or not the processor is unlocked? That seems like a pretty pointless move to me.

hehehe, speculation on the internets. ๐
Will upgrade at least for the new motherboards

Who knows, probably only some kind of marketing think, or maybe they will use K for something different in the future. I was wondering quite the same. It does not have much use I guess, then again, who cares as long as we all know it's C from Broadwell on.

Man I never saw that the C meant the same as the K based CPUs. Very interesting that Intel would change lettering and terminology like that. Also it is possible that the C based CPUs might be very Overclockable.

We saw in Tj's thread that Intel will name Skylake i7 6700k and i5 6600k so its interesting why is it 'C' this time around. I would also like to see how overclockable are these CPU's.

Looks interesting, although I dont like the slower clocks.
By interesting, I mean that I might upgrade my CPU when Skylake comes out, as I want to go with water cooling, but I dont really have enough space in my case to go add more than 2 radiators, one of them being small, 140mm, so when it comes to that, low TDP is a good thing...
EDIT: Meant to say Skylake instead of Haswell.

The "C" is just marketing. They want an additional tier of processors for the main stream. "K" is for enthusiast branding.
Have all the ram controllers only been rated at 1600? Just seems odd that with all the DDR3 speeds in the channel, the memory controller is only rated at 1600. My feeling is that these are only targeted at the main stream market.

If a C2Q Yorkfield lasted 4-5 years then no doubt it will be the same for these newer i7 cpus with 8 threads.
btw dx12 is build around 8 threads, anything more and it doesn't scale so well.. For example Mantle can use more then 12threads.

@TJ Easily. Heck mine is still doing well after 6 years :P

This is perhaps Intel's most underwhelming processor release in memory. Let me think...do I want to sell my OC'ed i7 4790k (its now at @4.6GHz 24/7) which is so fast it still amazes me everyday, and replace it with a shiny new Broadwell i7 5775C running at 3.3GHz and 2MB less of L3 cache?
hmmmm let me think........................................................................................NO, I'm good, but thanks anyway Intel.:bang:
