C'mon man! or in the immortal words of 13 year olds everywhere " puh-leeeze". a threadripper 2920x @ $650 takes ECC memory and has 64 pcie lanes. and that's the bottom of the line... and not mentioning Epyc at all, in addition, higher speed lower power, heat, and great mobo compatibility

I'm actually interested in E 2136 since its a bit cheaper than 8700.
If you intend to use a discrete GPU and ECC, the 2136 is a good (if not better) alternative. But, it's 100MHz slower, and you might have a harder time finding a compatible motherboard. The motherboard alone might take away the price advantage.

These aren't made to compete with Threadripper or Epyc at that. Highest core count on these is 6/12.

So wait, you telling me I can't slap it onto a z370 using regular ram? I was thinking will work just like my old E3-1240 on normal board. To be honest I just care about the price since a 8700 is hard to find for less than €450 where I am.
I'm not 100% sure since I've never built one of these, but, I have once built a socket 1151 Haswell PC before using a Xeon and from my recollection, not all motherboards were compatible with it. I would double-check the CPU support list just to be safe.

which is exactly my point. but the pricing puts them dead center in threadripper territory, and anybody doing professional builds would appreciate the extra 48-40 pcie lanes.
