I think most people will be once bitten twice shy when it comes to kinect.

I'm very much looking forward to getting my Xbox One next month (the fact that I can say 'next month' makes it seem really close now!) but I have zero intention of ever using Kinect. In fact, I plan to put it back in the box after the initial firmware update (because I presume this 15-20 minutes update removes both the 24 hour online check and the mandatory Kinect requirement) and never use it again.

I don't care for the new consoles, they aren't impressive in any way compared to the PC, however Kinect and the Xbox One controller are things that will make their way to the PC so I'm interested in them. I just don't think Microsoft have the talent to make good games for Kinect. I'd much rather see what Valve could do like if you could play the whole of Portal 2 with it that would be amazing.

I agree that both new consoles are hardly amazing hardware wise for mid and high-end PC gamers but then again you cannot play Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, DriveClub or Killzone: Shadow Fall on a PC. The exclusives are really the only reasons I buy consoles.

Considering the architecture, I'm sure an emulator with decent performance will come out relatively quickly. It just means most people are likely going to need an i7 to play them. Also, while the hardware isn't "amazing", it is definitely adequate enough to play high-detail games. I still don't understand how people here don't get that console hardware is not proportional in performance to PC hardware.

Well, actually I never said otherwise but the fact the the next-gen consoles are not delivering all their games at 1920x1080, nevermind at 60 fps from launch, something I pretty much take for granted with the majority of PC games, tells me that they're not particularly powerful. It's hard not to feel a bit underwhelmed really but I'm still very excited about the exclusive games that will come out for them that won't be available on the PC. I'm getting Beyond: Two Souls next week for my PS3 and despite the console's age that game looks all kinds of awesome from the demo I played and could well be the follow up game of the year after GTA V (which I'm playing on my PS3).

Well much like the initial release of all consoles, games are much less up-to-par in graphical abilities than the games at the console's EOL. I'm sure at some point nearly all next-gen games will be at 1080p. 60FPS is fine - most of us don't have displays faster than that and the human eye can't interpret more than that. I do, however, think they should have put more effort into 3D TVs, so restricting to 60FPS basically threw that option out the window. I also get the impression these consoles are not meant to be very long lived - the rate at which new display technologies are evolving means these consoles will probably be obsolete in about 3 years; I get the feeling these may be the last consoles with a focus on the plain boring displays the general public has been using for the past 10 years or so.

Yeah... "The exclusives are really the only reasons I buy consoles." Are you stupid? Because you buy consoles there will be exclusives. Don't buy = less exclusives. Very simple. I was going to buy an X1 to living room to be just a media center, but then I don't want to support console gaming and the machine is too restricted anyway.

What? No, hes smart. Why buy a multiplat title for your console when the same game can be bought for a quarter of the price on the pc eg: SC:Blacklist on consoles is still around 100 buck here, but 21 dollars for a legit steam/ubi key from a cdkey site. And not only is it cheaper, but the resolution and all that stuff can be maxed out on the pc. Thats why you buy a console only for exclusives, whats the point otherwise.

Don't buy = less exclusive is only valid if most of the world agrees with you. Because no one can tell the whole world not to buy consoles to stop exclusives, the smart thing to do is to buy console only for the exclusives.
