Doubt it'll change much in the way of piracy numbers People weren't prepared to pay for their current OS, why would they pay for the next?

I always had pirated windows since 3.11 times same and pirated dos ofc. But 8.1 is so good i actually felt guilty and spent money on it !!!

Put fair prices to every country and I will buy it... right know in my country I have to spend the double of money that the americans spend to buy the SO, so if you buy the SO at 140 USD we in my country have to pay 280!!! thats insane even worse if we consider that our country is poor than yours, our country need better prices like at least 50 dollars in the worst case. Microsoft should charge the cost to countries with the best economy situations and not to all countries the same. Until that is unfair for us and pirating will remain the same.

Windows monopoly They want to "give" you windows ten. Then they will not support it in a year and windows 11.1 will be $300 you'll see. Also leave the Northern continent and the pirated windows os is the norm not the exception!:banana:

u guys know that there mass cheap serial key sellers on net (like. all those seller on reddit) right ? i am havent try buy it for myself, but those keys seems legit/genuine, if not then why they still permitted selling those now so not sure why people still pirating less than $30 OS not only have risk security (tampered installation os)... it also can troublesome when the patch failing from like security update etc.

I have win7 64 pro and win8 64 pro licenses. If i upgrade my win7 or win8 to win10 free, i will lost my win7 or 8 license? or lets say , i will be able to install 7 or 8 with same license again if i decide to go back? thanks.

I still of the opinion if they made keys 50$ which will work on 1 machine, that easily de-activated and transferred to new machine, more people that make there own machine would be willing to buy the OS then find other ways. 90+ dollars for oem keys that arnt transferable is tad much imo

Hey, I'm from Chile too, and I upgraded my windows 7 to windows 8 for ~15 USD (menos de $8000 pesos en su momento). But yes, right now the prices in Chilean stores are way high compared to online stores like Amazon.

So pirates can get Win 10 but they'll have to put up with a MS watermark on their desktop. I'm pretty sure this will be removed by the crackers in no time at all. Plus what about the hundreds of thousands of PCs with Slic'd Bioses and mass VLK's that fooled MS into thinking the machine was genuine. I think Win 10 will get cracked as well if they do put some form of DRM in there. Why go to all the trouble and just give people a Win 10 basic copy for free.

I remember seeing copies of Windows until 7 with large stickers on them stating that they can only be activated in the middle east despite being the same price as in the USA. CBA with such restrictions for a single license at high prices. Do it right or there are proper toolkits available to do it for them.

No it wont, because windows 8 isn't even cracked. What will likely happen is the same with windows 8. You'll need to use a kms tool which will "activate" windows for 180 days at a time.

isn't it one single OS? if that's true then my 2 laptops and lumia should give me a free w10 license for my next pc right? same as universal apps where I buy it for the phone and have it waiting to be installed on the rest of my devices as "already bought" btw I live in dominicana and last time I checked there was a major pc store selling w8 licenses for 15k RD(350$) while they will happily format and install "genuine" windows on your pc for 30 bucks, sounds legit I know

Does the free upgrade option mean you must have windows 8 installed first? I always hated not being able to do a full reformat as I always have problems with upgrades. I usually just end up buying an OEM version so I can reformat whenever I please.
