Updated yesterday, took me roughly 20 mins, no issues at all. All settings merged just fine to a new version without problems. It looks good, and will give "new" edge a go after work. 🙂

I will never use Edge due to the lack of installing extension without a Microsoft account. other than that so far so good did about 5 computers yesterday without issues. Another 2 have some issues and keeps giving me errors but after a restart 1 of them finished and the other 1 still busy. I'm downloading and iso with media creator tool for the rest of the computers struggling to upgrade

Surprised no one mentioned the fact that this update will make it impossible to disable Cortana which will track and send all of our information directly to Microsoft(cough). You guys completely cool with that?

Updated yesterday with no problems. And Cortana is still disabled. MS does not change already disabled Cortana. And btw: Even with the update you can still disable her with an registry fix. btw2: i got a 1.5% boost in 3dmark

Oh I bet you have VERY important stuff on your PC. Also internet is filled with software which with one click disables all of the Win10 tracking features. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/images/smilies/emot_vhappy.gif

You can kill her forcibly.. brutally.. dead.. The real question though is will Microsoft resurrect her again through FORCED UPDATES..

close the outgoing connections and ports with your firewall or Win host file. I would recommender a hardware firewall anyway, you wont believe how much **** is being filtered out.

The traditional Search is now merged with Cortana but you have to opt in and agree in order to make Cortana actually work. I didn't opt in and the search results are pure local. I doesn't bring any web/online result upon my search. Only local stuff. There are some more options now in search. There are buttons to select what kind of search you want but the default search is local offline. As for Cortana it does state that your data will be sent to MS to make her work just like Siri and Google Now. So MS is transparent with her and I'm fine with that. Too much noise for nothing. As long as you can disable it or never opt in it's fine with me.

I never upgraded my Windows 7 installation - just ignored the constant nagging and countdown clock that continually appeared on my main machine. So I haven't got Spyware 10 now. Only thing I am missing badly is the big carrot they have stuck to that version only - the latest Direct X version. Oh well, maybe they will eventually realise they have to release this Direct X to Windows 7 some time... The thing that pissed me off is I have a second PC with a bought and paid for OEM install of Windows 7 and on that machine I wanted to upgrade it to try out Windows 10, but it never gave me the option to upgrade that machine for some reason. Not a chance in hell I will pay for two machines upgrade now ever.

Remember Microsoft are the operating system and can easily get around software settings for firewall and they don't even use the hosts file for their own servers either since they realised people were overriding their machines with dummy settings. So their spyware will and does still continue to phone home with your latest information.

Nope, they know most people only 'chose' to upgrade to 10 for DX12, majority of the rest were forced, they won't make a legacy OS they are trying to drop market share from, more favourable

Had plenty of time to do it manually, ISOs and Media Creation Tool have been freely available on techbench / MS site for a long time

Yeah I know they don't, just wishing they have to do it some time for some reason.

Didn't know about that. So much for Microsoft giving useful upgrade information to users... :bang:

I'm lucky so far, Cortana doesn't work in Canada unless I change my region.

To be fair, you couldn't really miss it lol, and G3D has been updated each and every new build, loads of threads about it here If you do it manually today, you might get lucky and still get your free upgrade, doesn't look like they've pulled the plug yet, people are still reporting it working fine using the ISO method and a Win 7 / 8.x key https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO/ And there is the assisted technologies trick that will still work for another couple weeks

http://www.winbeta.org/news/frances-national-data-protection-commission-says-windows-10-collects-much-data
MS does know very well, what they are doing. They know, that they are collecting a lot of data and they are fooling people by telling them that Windows 10 wouldn't work without telemetry. MS talking about privacy nowadays is like Saddam talking about human rights. Seriously, I can't understand people defending MS. MS has no natural right to collect data, they just trick people into accepting sick EULAs and talk about non-existing technological requirements. It must be some kind of Stockholme syndrome, "getting our data collected is good for us, MS is on our side, MS will never build an uber-google surveillance machine, of course they will have the possibility, but they will never abuse it, it's just these dumb critics who can't understand how cool everything is".

HDR support has been added in DirectX 11.4 (which is not new, D3D11.4 was released initially to improve support for external GPUs only) and DirectX 12, SM 6.0 support has been added in DirectX 12 (and is mandatory for all FL 12_0+ GPUs, not sure about FL 11_0 and FL 11_1 support). A public preview of the new shader compiler will be released at the end of the year, RTM eta is 2017ish.
