The expectations from this game are increasing the longer they delay it.

Which is ironic, considering that's the type of hype they are trying to avoid.

If anyone remembers HL2 was for a loooong time a vaporware itself... I think HL3 just repeats the history. I don't know why it is so. HL is such a unique franchise, I really can't figure why Valve is dragging its feet on it. Probably the botched "episode" format derailed them, probably their strange company hierarchy (or lack of it)... HL3 dream lives on.

I just hope this does not indicate Half-Lemon game. Time when we get HL3 matters little, as long as it is not Lemon/Half-Lemon.

I wouldn't mind a return to Black Mesa, where you investigate what has happend.

Sounds good to me... Best Half-Life was the original & Opposing Force. Love them to pieces!

Blue Shift was good too, as it was from perspective of guard you have seen at start of HL. None had big overlap. But each had unique look at story and revealed other things.

No it wasn't. We were younger, more stupid and definitely impatient, but HL2 didn't get announced until they had an engine, cool demos and a launch date. And then some dickwad stole the game so we got to wait a little longer. But vaporware? Then you can call any game you desperately want to exist vaporware.

Blue Shift wasn't bad. The only issue was the extremely short story mode. Blue Shift only took me around 2 1/2 hours to complete. πŸ™ Opposing force & Half-Life took around 8-10 hours...

hit the nail on the head. remember when they said the episodes would be 6mo apart? buuuuuuuuuuuut then their flat office structuring put the onus of impetus on the motivated employees who wanted to make it happen...who ended up floundered on the episodes & became a bit discouraged. they wrapped it up & then divided focus on moving other projects forward - like the next l4d, portal, & dotas. boo i bet theyve been talking about it off & on ever since, but couldnt organize enough manpower to do much significant work on it since its such an imposing project. easier to make a portal map or tweak dota heros :wanker: that being said, i will die if i dont get to play hl3 at SOME point, so bring it on volvo. pls. also this cant be an accident, its gotta be some tease - the question is, wats behind it??

Well, iirc OP4 had quite a lot of firefights and some areas were quite difficult to fight/move through. I wonder who remembers Gunman Chronicles game, built on source back then. It had features and style which other FPS games got years later. Very good game, but I do not think many people bought it. Years ago, my CD got scratched, and I wanted to play it so much again... I did insert serial to steam, and it unlocked all HL1 data discs, but not Gunman game. (It has awesome soundtrack too.)

I think its pretty obvious that they are waiting for good VR in order to get going on it. They keep saying they aren't making it -- but I'm sure in some fashion it's being developed. If they simply build a FPS game though, it will never live up to the hype. They need to go a step further and ship it with a ground breaking tech and I'm pretty sure that tech is VR.

i played that game when it came out. loved it πŸ˜€ gun customization was the best, & the first big dino appearance startled the hell out of me! but thats neither here nor there. hl3 is prolly never coming out, ugh, gaben said earlier this year "The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why"

Valve have been trolling us since episode two.

It has already been confirmed HL3 will NOT be a VR game. Likely it will support it (like HL2 does), but not be a requirement to play in any way. I honestly think Valve is having a hard time innovating on the gameplay side. It has been so long that they need something to really wow us and that is very hard nowadays. I'd be happy with anything that furthers the story at this point. I really want to know what happens, I'd even take a novel just to wrap it up.

No it wasn't. It was first shown at E3 2003 and then Valve's servers got hacked and the game was leaked. It was released a year later. I'm willing to bet that Valve employees are doing this on purpose just to troll us. I doubt we'll ever see HL3 and I don't really care at this point either.

I actually doubt that it is a troll attempt. DoTA2 has been moved to Source 2, which we should assume would power HL3 as well. Many many Source 1 games have files which reference HL2 because that is the game the engine was originally created for. It is probably a safe assumption that even if HL3 will never see the light of day that much of the Source 2 work was done as part of developing HL3 and therefore we may see references to it in Source 2 games.

Ironically, the Steam distrbution system that propagated HL to the masses is in fact the very entity responsible for killing Half Life as we knew it. Valve has no incentive to constantly pump out HL content anymore as Steam is their money maker now. I am not saying there will never be a HL3, it's just Steam changed things at Valve... drastically.

They make a lot more by selling cosmetic items for Dota, TF2, CS:GO, etc.... Also they make a killing in the marketplace.

They should just sell the HL franchise to another studio, Bethesda, Bioware or whatever. Sure it may lose a bit of its soul, but if they're not going to do anything with it, may as well. Would be awseome if Rockstar did HL3.
