Glad I don't use gmail.... I'll stick with my Hotmail and Verizon e-mail accounts.

So basically my contacts which are all in my Gmail account as I originally started with Android will no longer sync to my Windows Phone 7.5?

So this will in no way affect gmail syncing on Android, right?

I've used Hotmail since 1998 and haven't had an issue with it. Don't see a reason to jump on the gmail bandwagon now...

Google not supporting Windows Phone won't doom it. If anything, it'll be the way Microsoft is treating it. They need to set a minimum hardware requirement and let the phone makers have some room to build better phones. They also need to actually support their user base....

Last time I looked, Gmail has about 450 million active users.

Well damnit and also a small wake up call from a security POV. Now that I have an Outlook account I should really transfer my contacts over from Gmail to Outlook as I don't want my contacts on my tablet.

Is that because when you create a YouTube account it now forces you to have a Gmail account and a Google + account? I wonder how many people were forced to do that for a simple want of a YouTube account? Coolhead.

Hmm, point sir, good point.

Are we sure they have 450 million "active" users and not just 450 million accounts? Or is it a case where Google sells the e-mail address so it can receive spam, thus allowing them to consider it active?

I believe the article said it was active users. Meaning users who are using the google play store and downloading/buying stuff from their andriod device. Which requires you to have an active google/gmail account. I can't seem to find the article I was reading that mentioned it. Funny how that seems to happen. 🤓

I use gmail primarily but I have a hotmail account for school and Windows live messenger.

So, they even count people that have never actually logged into a gmail account as being "active" just because they use other services offered by google. Yep, always amazes me how fast articles can disappear. I think they get sucked into the void so we can't use them for reference later.

Meh, I'm content with outlook.com. I've been using it for over a decade. I opened my gmail account as a junk email id and to avoid the age confirmation page on youtube (ISP blocking).

You have to have a Gmail account to even download/purchase anything from the google play store. So even if they only registered with GMail for that particular reason, it's still a lot of people with Andriod devices.
