Guess Hilbert Hagedoorn doesnt know much about networking hardware. "fairly unknown IC". lol. Mellanox is one of the biggest names in networking there is.
This is great news that Gigabyte is doing this. SFP+ is only used for up to 10 gigabit, so there is no point in pushing it as a new connection format for home users or businesses moving into that speed category. SFP28 supports up into 25 gigabit, so you will already have the cables from using this card for future upgrades as well

The chipset supports 100GBe; there is CLN4C44, which have 4x25GBe ports, also in SFP28 format.
But... the price for Mellanox... huh!

I will be more intrested when these chipest get intergrated in to Motherboards, but it about time we start seeing faster then 1gbit nic's
