I love that they atleast included a backplate. Any word on pricing? Hilbert can you take off its clothes so that we can see how the VRM is being cooled? MSI didn't include a backplate, but atleast got their VRM cooling right this time. Although the Gigabyte version OCs super high so I guess that isn't an issue. Also Sammy ram omfg. Can you post FLIR temps of the OC? I'd like to know what all is frying with a 1500mhz boost clock.

Its £299 in UK. I do have my eye on this one to be honest or MSi gaming Edition for £282. MSI and Gigabyte

VRM is somewhat hot on that MSI. Gigabyte had coil whine and fan issues so I ordered Asus Strix.

You ordered the GTX 970 from Gigabyte? Damn. Its not even available here. Care to explain what exactly the fan issues were?

I wanted the Strix, untill I saw that it has no direct memory cooling and that when overclocking a manual fan profile is needed to maintain boost clocks.
One issue we did notice with the ASUS card is that it initially wasn't boosting as high as we'd have expected. We noticed that the fans didn't seem to want to spin beyond 42 percent, apparently prioritising low noise over boost frequency. As such, we set the fans manually to 50 percent, which saw a higher and more constant boost clock emerge. The downside to this is that the fan speed is locked, and won't slow down or enter its passive mode, even when idle.

Good find made, yea that kind of puts me off Asus now. Looks like MSI it is, ive got MSI now and no problem for the last 2 years!

Yeah. I guess the only unknown now is the Palit Jetstream version. Its availible now and is cheaper than the others, but dont know if its cooler is any good or has a custom pcb and/or upgraded power phases (like the Asus and MSI)

GTX x70 G1 Gaming. Third Gigabyte in a roll(670, 770, 780), never had any issues. Just fanboy arousing flames wars ...again!

Those (FLIR) temps compared to MSI version are so lower , dat backplate.

So anyone here notice/hear any coil whine? There were reports from a couple of G1 970 owners on a fairly popular 3d-related website and I've been wondering.. Could be just an isolated issue if no one else here's had it!..?

Great! Another kickass 970 which makes it even harder to choose. This card is available in Sweden but in very small quantities though shipments are incoming in about 2 weeks which is too far off. I love the backplate on this card and the fact that it's cooler than the MSI which seems to have hot VRMs. But if there are problems with the cooler then its a big no-no.

Yea only less popular brands are available at the moment, the rest are pre order. Gives me week or 2 to decide and read few more reviews!

Guru3D liked the 780Ti JetStream so I assume the 970 version will be as good that one. I did own the 780Ti version for a week or so but returned it since the cooler was so large (3 slots) and fairly noisy.

Hey Hilbert Hagedoorn I am just wondering, what made you give the 970 from Gigabyte 4 stars whilst the MSi and Palit's 970 have 4.9 stars? Just curious, since I am currently planning on upgrading to a GTX 970 and I have mainly aimed my sights into the Gigabyte and MSi one (at same time selling my current card in use). Oh wait... or are those star ratings from the readers? xD srry newbie here lol Nice article on the 3 cards by the way.

Yeah, I am stuck between the two right now. Planning to buy them next week since its payday on friday 🙂 But still selling my old card which might take a while. But between the likes and dislikes between the MSi's GTX 970 and Gigabytes GTX 970 are: MSi GTX 970 Likes> Nice epic looking cooler Nice illuminated MSi dragon logo Can OC really well with good temperatures Fans silent mode when on idle Black PCB The price is really good I would just have to add 60 quid Dislikes> No back plate 🙁 (I don't know its kinda my thing now since my lightning as backplates and leds xD it just looks sexy) And I have bought an acrylic cut to size and drilled holes in it and replaced my Zalman case side panel for the full glass clear acrylic panel. Gigabyte GTX 970> Likes> Nice epic looking cooler Nice illuminated WF logo Can OC really well with good temperatures (best temperature) Black PCB The sexy Backplate though! Disikes> Might be too long (my lightning right now barely fits my current case (have 2-3mm left of free space) and its 297mm long card) The price is pretty high, its like a couple of penny's and it will be £300 🙁

It's just bulletin thread rating. Since you liked the reviews you can rate them 5 and up the score :P
