As well as the new black finish vrm cooler that let's them overheat even faster.

I've just recently purchased this board and i'm VERY pleased about how clean and empty the board looks. On top of that, I'm also surprised at how much cooler this board is in comparison to my previous one... This helps to drive down the temps in my case overall and actually i have having fun with my system not screaming at me when maxing out both GPU's. On the previous board, the ridiculous Northbridge temps were influencing my primary GPU's temp, which was never good. VRM and Northbridge coolers are cold to the touch when idle, not something i can say about the last board. Most people with a 990FX board will know what i mean. Theres a lot of refinement with this board and was hesitant to buy another board from Gigabyte, but they have done well here. With the inclusion of some newer features such motherboard edge lighting, USB Type C, USB DAC UP, Swappable audio chip, M2 etc, this was a really good buy from my end. The board is extremely sturdy and heavy, has twice the amount of copper in the PCB. No heating issues whatsoever. Also the new Software package is MUCH better than previous versions. Much more intuitive and technically sound with the information and options is presents. As an example, the OC feature allows you to pre-OC my 9590 to 5.3Ghz as a 'Standard' Option. I just dont want to take it above 5/5.1Ghz on air, and i dont really know if there would be much benefit to this considering performance/power draw. But the option is there! I can tell you, an FX9590 and 2x R9 280x's, everything overclocked, produces a lot of heat in a midi tower. This board does very well to handle it all. I only have one standard 80mm exhaust fan with this case, normally i had to leave the side open but my CPU temp is approx 50 degrees under load and both GPU's around 75 degrees on load. I think they are preparing us for yet another let-down, lets hope I am not right on this one. In the mean time I will stick with Intel until they can show me otherwise.

It would be so nice if amd were to release 14nm excavator 12 core (6 module) cpu for the 990 chipset. I'm sure they have a good reason why they don't but it's too bad.

There's no letdown with the 8350fx, im using one ad my home server and it's really amazing for the job. It's really great for running vms and if you turn off the turbo feature it gets very efficient. To get similar performance on the Intel side, I'd need to spend twice as much.

I may end up picking up this board, mine has had random issues over time. I thought it was hardware related (cpu, gpu) but since I've recently changed those out, I can blame the issues on my mainboard. But, with zen so close, I may just wait it out.

The 990FX core-logic chipset is not new at all, or updated from AMD. This motherboard is one of many OEM-updated motherboards to ship recently that employ the AMD 990FX chipset, which has been available for a long time--years, actually. The USB 3.1 & etc. functionality is provided custom by the mboard OEM. AMD released the 970 and the 990 FX AM3+ chipsets long ago--and you can tell easily by the fact that these boards still use PCIe 2.x, when AMD's newest chipset boards for its APUs all support PCIe 3.x and some other things. The 970 chipset boards work best with FX cpus of 95W and <, whereas the 990 chipset is designed for 125W+ AMD cpus. MSI has a new updated 990FX board for sale as does ASUS. This Gigabyte board is their latest, too. The ZEN chipset will definitely be PCIe 3.x plus a lot more and it will not be AM3+. I think these companies are all shipping new 970/990 mboards because they had neglected their AMD board upgrades for a long time. But the upgrades are all OEM-specific add-ons.

Excellent board. 🙂 I have said it before and I will say it again, these type of boards needed to be released back in 2013 because then, in my opinion, the FX chips would have sold a lot better than they did.
