It was a maximum stretch, but 3090 is a 350w GPU and I said 400w+ With undervolting it can be a 300w GPU.

While yes it's possible to undervolt, this is doing something that's outside of stock configurations and varies on the quality of the sample, some cards are very good at it, some aren't.

The RTX 4080 should consume the same power as the RTX 3080. According to the leaker, the decrease is attributable to the ยป power consumption of the Ada Lovelace line, ยป which may impact the GPU speeds and performance of the next generation of graphics cards. As with previous leaks, NVIDIA has not confirmed or provided official details about kopite7kimi or the future GPUs. Changes in usage may be the result of technological difficulties with TSMC's 5nm chips under extreme conditions.
Does this suggest that while there 'may' be no increase in power draw, the increase in performance might be a little underwhelming?

My Dell reference card hasn't ever broken 350W though it handily uses said 350W. I pay particularly close attention to it because I'm running it on a 750W PSU.

It depends on what you consider underwhelming and whatever the performance increase ends up being. Typically it's been a 30 - 50% bump on the top end with everything else stepping down a tier. I'd consider it underwhelming if the prices don't get reined in.

Im just wondering if they are struggling to get good yields that will perform within power and temperature constraints. In the currant climate they wont want to release cards that suck up excessive power, when i say climate i mean both the heatwave and the cost of electricity. Im wondering if they will be forced to dial things back in order to hit a compromise between heat, power draw, productivity and performance (in that order).

I wouldn't be surprised if they choose to focus on reducing power consumption considering how much it shot up from the 2k to 3k cards. Until there's a reliable leak or an announcement we won't know for certain.

"Transient spikes" are overhyped - RTX 2XXX series had them, AMD had some HUGE spikes since Vega (600W spikes!!!) - nobody cared too much - just buy a solid PSU... Offtopic: Why undervolt a 3090??? - it's like buying a Ferrari and worrying about not having enough money for the gas...since you can afford a top of the line GPU why do you care so much about power draw??? - heat???, silicon degradation??? Ontopic: This is what progress should be - more performance for the same/less amount of power - if this is real - we'll see that when the cards will be bechmarked but it is a good "rumor".

if that means 100-200,mhz less boost then np, let users OC more if they want at expense of extra volts and watts. A friend bought a 3080 12g recently and he said it auto set to 1.25v? but he lowered to 0.90v? and it boosted around the same in same games 1890-1950mhz, sometimes near 2000mhz. ?* or he maybe read it wrong, isn't 1.25v high for stock 3080?

Well... I have a Corsair RM1000i which, I would consider a solid PSU. Still, 2x 3080Tis died on me (no signal to monitor and fans spinning to 100%), the first (MSI Suprim X) within a day and the second (Gigabyte Gaming OC) after one year of usage. Now I can't say for sure if these spikes were the cause, all I know is it happened during heavy GPU load. Also, there are tons of threads of similar deaths happening with even better, some cases even brand new PSUs. I think there is room for improvement here, and it might be an idea for nvidia/amd to work with PSU manufacturers, instead of throwing blame at each other.

more intrested ins 4060ti tdp and performance, i have very little intrest in GPU using more then 200 watts that is already to much heat to be dumped in my room which what my 1070ti pushes at it highest. i prefer 150 max at this point but they dont seem to make those anymore
