The intriguing thing about this 4070 is that it significantly outperforms the 3080 at 1080p, which is quite an attractive option for people with high Hz monitors. I'm not sure why it outperforms the 3080 so much at 1080p whereas at higher resolutions it equals the 3080 - I don't know if this is because the 4070 is somehow less taxing on the CPU? Otherwise the performance for a new generation card vs previous gen is not particularly impressive. EDIT: Although over on Toms Hardware they're not seeing a large increase in difference of performance at 1080p for 4070 vs 3080: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-review/5 So it could be that it's down to the different games chosen between Tom's & Guru3d, or something has happened re "updates" or some other unknown quirk with the Guru3d 3080 testing differences.

GPU market continues to be disappointing.

I'm talking about the Guru3d test results, not another website's data. If you take a look back at my post I did an EDIT where I say that such a large difference was not seen at Tom's Hardware. I wonder why Guru3d has such different results re 1080p between the 3080 & 4070.

Pricing is weird... comparing to previous generations MSRPs, this is really.. meh... Inflation and Nvidia/AMD holding on to mining craze/covid demand prices are really making this generation feel underwhelming at their respective prices. Certainly skipping this generation. The question is, will this level of pricing continue in subsequent generations? I believe it likely will. Mid tier GPUs are now what used to be top tier prices, low tier prices have seen stagnating prices and even reductions in features and performance at the same price points as before.

haha, yeah sure, I will keep that in mind when buying AMD 😀, haven't had any driver that could brick Win in 25 years building PCs LOL
Come on Krizby, keep an open mind - just because you haven't had issues, doesn't mean others haven't. There are people all over that have had horror stories with any and all vendors.

Somehow I have a feeling that old data was reused for certain games due to lack of time, and the game/driver patches could have altered the results. + There are always testing differences between various news outlets, some go with built-in benchmarks, others play the same portion of the game, others measure via FCAT and other external tools... But obviously, I don't really know that, it's just speculation. --- In any case, for most of the reviews out there it seems that this 4070 is roughly equal to a 3080 10G, winning by a tiny bit at 1080p and losing 5% or more at 4K, while being measurement error at 1440p. The differences here on Guru3D in some of the games are unusual, not the norm.

Yup, I mentioned "updates" in the EDIT of my earlier post, so I too think that could be a likely explanation. Yep, I think we can say that 4070 is not an amazing win at 1080p resolution then in comparison to 3080, not like I had originally thought from the Guru3d testing here (it seems like an anomaly here on Guru3d).

This is a meh at best video card 😏underwelming ... not worth $600 us dollars 😛 ! Next please

Seems like fundimentally it's a good card - performance/power/noise/features all fine - it's just a little too expensive. At $500 we'd all be praising it, I think even at $550 it would have been appealing, but $600 is just a little too much.

Should we continue to act like this card is actually 600$? Check your stores and find me one at msrp other than FE.

Microcenter has quite few $599 AiB card, I center dont think it 600$ card but 4060 will most likey be much worse spec wise. Thinking of picking up MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ventus 3X OC for 599$ if still in stock when i before i go back nc, maybe

Well it looks like im buying the Rtx 4070 Ti once it drops abit in price (atm not worth £800+) to replace my aging Rtx 2080, the Rtx 4070 is abit too weak i feel, even though i will prob buy the Rtx 5070 when it comes

I agree it is an all-around very solid card, though I wouldn't be praising it at $500. I think that'd be an acceptable price but not one I'd be willing to spend.

Undying:

No the best thing to do is get the used 3090. It will outlast all these cards.
Like I said, I'll see n32 first. What worries me is no leaks or announcements whatsoever, so it might be massively delayed.

AMD has to sell the massive stockpile of RDNA2 first, so yeah, could be awhile...

Same price as the 3070Ti but way faster and way more energy efficient. What do people expect, 3090Ti performance for 3060 Money?
