One of the best ways I found how to tell when new GPUs are close is current GPU prices. When they start dropping on a weekly basis (not by a lot, just very often), You can expect new GPUs within a short period of time. The faster they drop, the closer you are getting. If they drop on a daily basis, it should be this month or next month (announcement).

I was going to buy a 3080ti about 2 months ago at $1300+ before tax. I had a buyer for my 2080ti and I just decided not to. LOL now a 3080ti is at $900 LOL!! I buy in a few weeks maybe or just wait till used ones hit $400-$500 range. I paid $950 for my 2080ti in late 2019 and $130 for the EK water block. I spent $40+ on thermal grizzly mines pads and loaded a power mod bios. Altogether I spent about $1,275+ to get a 2080ti low edition and spend about $170 to make it better. I got lucky it can OC well enough to warrant the water cooling expenses. A full custom loop is not cheap, but damn did I get lucky with my 1st D5 pump. It was literally on 24/7 on max rpm for 5 years... It lasted longer than my Seasonic 1100watt platinum. Now that I think about it I do not want to upgrade LOL!! it's kind of a big deal for me to tear down my system and it takes HR's to tear down a system re-build old gpu to stock build new gpu to water and do testing... it's fun but after a while you get burnt out.

Exactly why i just get the gpu with the best aircooler instead... soooo much less hazzle, even if watercooling is technically better.

I got a worthless MSI Suprim X RTX 3090 I use for PC Gaming. With the rumored $3000USD for the RTX 4090 I may skip buying the newest GPU for the first time in 20 years,OH wait the day before release Nvidia will drop the price and I will be mesmerized of how great Nvidia is and how much they care for me as a consumer.I will buy that new RTX 4090 for the great good

oh yeah you fit in here. btw... after doing a really nice hardline rig...upgrading is hell. i ended up downsizing the case and from now on i'm sticking with soft tubes and Quick Release fittings on CPU/GPU lines.

as far as the Mobile 4xxx's... if they really release a mobile 4090 that alone may tempt me and might be my first toe-dip into Lovelace. i typically keep a high end gaming laptop for work related travel and for visiting my elderly mom (it's a drive and i always stay at least two days). i've had a preference for Nvidia laptops until now that the AMD mobile is finally decent, but i need a new lappy in the next 6-10 months. finally now you can mix and match GPU/CPUs for mobile and i'll actually have a good choice between next gen platforms (cpu incl.) a 4090 laptop would be awesome as long as the premium is less than $250 more than 4080 mobile (which may be good enough for me). i bought an rx6900xt @ msrp in April and i'm delighted. so even though i'm "geeked" over next gen gpu/cpu i can afford to wait until i hear from real people on the compare & contrast bit.

I can tell you that even today I am looking at the GPU market and going "nah, too early". I expect the 3080 and 3070 to be at least 40% cheaper by the time I even consider them (compared to today, we are at 800 dollars in Poland for the cheapest 3080). People are buying 6900XT with full cover waterblocks for 900 bucks and returning them because they get cheaper and cheaper. Personally, I am fine with waiting another year if I have to. my 1080 is still able to do what I need it to.

I've been doing my own custom loop soft tube only for 7+ years. My takeaways are. If you are going for max performance, then water cooling is a must. Good example you spend $1000+ on a GPU. Sure, it runs good even if you have a big azz air cooler though you won't be able to oc much on top hardware. You could safely get 20% more out of a water cooled card and if your loop is big, you can have a nice OC and not worry about losing much FPS as it heats up. VS a stock card as long as you don't increase the power limit you should be fine. But if you like to OC and power draw is not a problem its great. I don't run my systems maxed out 24/7 like I used to. Now I use profiles and only load the best for what I need it from. As for tubing I would never go hardline for my personal rig. Maintenace is already like a car on custom loop and making it hard as a BWM to work on is not what I want. OC and tweaking/setup already take hrs. to complete.
