Vega will not force Nvidia's hand. Nvidia already have a Vega beater ready. They're not stupid. But until Vega comes, they'll pocket a few millions from 1070 and 1080 sales.

The thing is... Why should Nvidia release anything more powerful than the 1080 when there's nothing to compete with it?
Probably nothing until Vega which is why it's frustrating, their cycles always avoid each other. They can't release the 1080 at a reasonable price and just have high volume sales compensate for it because they obviously can't produce high volumes of the 1080. That's probably part of the motivation behind the BS Edition they're spewing out at a $100 premium (which if you guys didn't know, can't sustain its turbo clocks at all and throttles down to 1607MHz in many games). But they definitely could release it at a non-insane price, but why should they, when there's literally zero competition...
Historical trends show that this 15% GTX 1080 has over 980Ti will be short lived. As prices will be.
I don't know about where you live, but here the prices never drop, ever. Even at the very end of a life cycle where you'd think they'd want to clear stock all they do is lower the price a tiny amount more towards release price as the price INCREASES with time as the stock drops. As in the price is still higher than release so it overall hasn't gone down.

I expect Vega to destroy the 1080 though.

Even if it's reference 980 performance that's pretty close to what our 970s perform at even without their OCs that are beyond what 980s can reach. Not a worthwhile upgrade at all.
I'm not looking to upgrade from my 970. I don't even need the performance of the 970 these days. Hell, I'm using an old Acer Aspire 5733Z with a Core i3 380M most of the time. I'll upgrade this laptop to a Core i5 480M before I have a need to upgrade from my 970....lol

We probably see 'forcing' as very different word in meaning. I used it in scenario where Vega comes and nVidia will react on it with something equal/better. And then bigger Vega comes and cycle repeats. But if nVidia is not forced by Vega late 2016/early 2017, do you think nVidia will release big Pascal any time soon? Or would we be here in May 2017 and asking: "Where is big Pascal?"

Big Pascal will come when Nvidia deems appropriate. It's all in AMD's hands.

So, 6GB or 4/8GB - 128/256bit for 1060? Any concrete info?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/196/196284.jpg
It will probably be a 128bit memory bus, likely with 4GB VRAM....

nvidia will price this above the 250/230/240 depending on what type it is,will it come with 4gb you bet will it come with a 128bit yes they are trying to get in on mid range market, then when amds cards are out they will come out with a 1050 even priced lower to the newbies who buy pcs from bestbuy or what not just to play dota2 lol or easy type games.

NVidia has been over pricing this segment just as long as the high end. priced at under 250 and as fast or +%5 of the 970 is all you can hope for

That's good enough for me and my silly games.

Is it just me who thinks the form looks like it was created in MS Paint? Especially the top section, the turquoise clickable links above the ad choices?
it's just you. You cannot create something like this in paint. You'd have to use something a bit more complex. Looks like a screenshot PASTED into Paint though yes

not everyone likes waste money new GPU every year for nominal performance increase for 300-500$. People that upgrade every 2~3 generations, that performance increase is great vs cost and wattage same goes for 1070-1080 which 140watt vs the 660gt 160wattage. people compare last gen to current gen series are just crazy of coarse the difference is negligible just like Intel CPU gen to gen in negligible. it fault of people it not nvidia or intel's fault people are dumb and buy higher prices. They Set stupid price on mid teir with what almost high end prices cause people will buy it reguardless if pef vs last gen series is negligible. and they all know this that why it done. And why I only buy mid teir and only ever 2-3 gen has passed.
