It truly was. One of the old World War type games I enjoyed back in 2001 - 2003. Railgun, The Beach, the one with the tank you had to keep repairing on the long road down the hill. That was such good times and ET Pro, Punkbuster updating. [youtube=9X7g2W_lWN0]

This game is special to me. I played this to death. I must of followed and repaired that huge tank 5000 times. I made the mistake of playing it again some time ago and even though it still had a large player base the game didn't feel the same as it once did.

Hasn't this always been free?

The map screen is more impressive than the game itself! Excellent.

Yes. Though I cannot remember how it worked. It was standalone or a mod to RTCW? I think it was standalone. I remember getting updates from Fileplanet, Gamespy and Barrysworld back then. Maybe even from Railbait. I remember the updates took forever back then. 300+MB patches. Everyone was bogging the servers down to an almost halt that we had to use Download Accelerators so the download wouldn't restart or crash. The Quakenet IRC channels were going crazy back then.

The mess around the tank to get it repaired was hilarious at times. The bottle shaped explosives around the tank that someone missed or wiped out the team. Some of the battles around the tank took forever. Almost the duration of that match. All you'd see is the team jumping down the hill. Then somebody coming with the panzer. If not the mortar spam. Somebody would be hunting the mortar player hidden in an alley somewhere.

I remember playing a few matches when it was released but it got confusing, so I didn't play it again.

It was bundled free with paid game, a bit like "crisis war" with "crisis". But it is now standalone and free since some month now. I was loving this game... But now it feel really really dated.
