Whats the risk exactly for free games? 😀 Epic Store has also been around for longer then most people know, it just didn't move very much in the early years, they only started pushing it not that long ago - when everyone assumed it also started existing, practically. 😀
True however their launcher is in early stages though. And Also read this. https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/free-to-grab-6-free-batman-games-from-epic-games-store.428625/#post-5712804

Yes i think we all want more features. Yet none of us work for Epic or any other complany that has released a launcher. Every launcher to date has started with basic features and build up from there. It is not realistic to ask for more since that is the way it works apparently. Not really a launcher but even discord works like that. In the meantime more ideas will be added, so expect us to be complaining it to be as bloated as steam is in a few years lol 😀
I guess we agree to disagree 🙂 I don't hold a grudge against EGS per se (except timed exclusives), I've been playing Control on EGS and it works as expected.

I actually agree with the first of your paragraphs. Epic have no excuses for not releashing a game launcher with functionality fully included, as the research and development has been done by other people in their launchers. There is nothing and I mean nuthin' that excuses such a poorly implemented game launcher and store.
They need no excuse. They decided they would start with a minimal launcher and would add features in time. Just like every other launcher btw. Steam,Uplay,Origin,Gog,Battlenet they all started with a minimum feature launcher, and added features in time. Rockstar for example (which is brand new) , look at that launcher. Its brand new, doesnt have features, but im sure they will add more over time as well.

Lol does no one remember the Steaming pile of... memes back in the day? I hated steam originally back in 2004 when I was forced to install it for half life 2 and CS:S I dont get the hate on epic

Rockstar is a little different, as it will not launch or support non-rockstar games - humbly stand to be corrected here, but those other platforms do support the launching of non-games.

Right? I tried to make an EGS account to get these Batman games and realized I opened one years ago, according to the history. I didn't even install their client, I just used the web browser to add these games. Something I should have been doing with all their freebies. I sort of get where people are coming from (the disdain), but ultimately, if they sell something I really want, I'm buying it. Meanwhile, bribing us with free Batman games (and all the rest) isn't the worst strategy ever.

Yes, Steam sucked back then but how many similar services existed at that time? Zero. So if you're pioneering something, you're bound to have to adapt and adjust your product along the way. As I wrote before, today one would expect basic features in a brand new launcher/shop.

Rockstar doesnt even allow you to launch the steam version of GTA5, everything is just bound to their own launcher. EA basicly left steam to start their new launcher a few years back, so its just EA games in their launcher. they are tied to your account , which is checked in the launcher. Uplay , Im not sure here, but i think it doesnt allow to launch a game on steam , only the other way around. so launch a game on steam, it opens uplay as well. Blizzard has no game on Steam, soon (or maybe it already launched) destiny 2 will be available on steam as well, but i dont think the launcher will allow you to play that game. Only steam and gog.com 2.0 beta allows you to add custom games. Unfortunately Steam's DRM doesnt allow direct launching of games, some games do not even start , while others start the steam client and start the game. It is a big mess on the PC platform 🙁 , but i guess that is the price to pay for an open system.

Sure, Epic's features could be better, but people have complained about more launchers since EA Origin and Ubisoft Uplay hit the scene. And they've given away freebies too. Heck, I'd say Ubisoft's current one month free trial for Uplay+ is better than anything Valve has done for at least ten years (back when the sales didn't suck). Even GoG decided to release Witcher Thronebreaker on Steam because of too disappointing sales, and GoG is arguably the most pro-consumer with its DRM free policy. And it must suck for CD Projekt Red to see The Witcher 3's sales on Steam and think that 30% of that goes straight to Valve, despite them even offering the same game on their own service without DRM. Valve simply dominates the market too much for anyone to compete without going for agressive things like paying for exclusivity. What do you actually believe Epic could do to compete? And before you say cheaper games, Valve requires a game on Steam not to be more expensive than on other stores, so Borderlands 3 for example just can't cost 18% less on Epic if it had been sold on Steam too.

I've gotten every free game on the EGS so far - figure why not? I've heard that Everything will also be their next free game so I'll grab that as well (I think Steam has a 80% off sale on it right now). I noticed a few new features of late (such as the hours played and cloud saves) - they're improving the launcher like they said they would, which is nice. The free games certainly make the difference - I always look forward to the next free game so that I can add it to my collection. I probably won't play most of them but it's always nice to add a game to my digital library for future consideration. I'm still playing ME (for the DLCs) and BL3 so the Epic launcher gets the most use these days.

Yup. Sad to say that I'm one of those people, which is why I'm determined to buy Cyberpunk on GoG. There's no reason for a middle-man to take a cut when you can get it directly from the devs / publishers.

People here do not remember how were the first 5 years of Steam... That were 5 years of true boycott. And most of people here ranting never wrote a single line of code in their entire life..

_ I believe there are 3 reasons, sometimes mixed: Xenophobic stereotype: "cheater" Ideology: "Capitalism against communism". But I believe most are just from the fanboy team. I'm enjoying the store wars, my game collection has grown exponentially. 😀

I had a nice video for the article, 4K, no unnecessary commentary. It's incredible to have all those awesome games for free, some of my favorite games of the last decade. [youtube=732-Y9wEY0Q] Steam owns 75% of digital market sales on PC (reported in 2017) despite Origin, Uplay, Gog, Battle.net ... , adding gamification to Steam through achievements, collectables, trading cards, is just a way to make the platform more addictives using the same recipe as games and retain consumers, this is insidious to the bone, they've slowly turned Steam into a virtual Casino. I'll never ever be behind Steam, and welcome the Epic game store with open arms.

And, as I said above: that R&D has been done by Valve, so no one has the excuse. D'see? We all know what works, and any excuses saying "Well, XYZ took ABC to get right" is an excuse for the lack of an excuse, and both of which are not a reason. What is worse, is that Epic had the 'Epic launcher' for as long as they had the Unreal Engine 4, which is longer than 5 years already...so, what is the reason - not the excuse?
data/avatar/default/avatar08.webp
Epic is no Valve. Epic has no access to the source code of Steam client, nor have its resources. All of your text is rants. R&D is just an acronym without real meaning here. Coding is not like play with lego, and a complex software like a game launcher requires time and resources and bugs will ever happens, doesn't matter if it is written from scratch or a forks of some crap designed FOSS-penguin-lower written in some shitty-JIT-language. Anyone who never really something cannot understand this, so all the rest are pure rants.

Whatever your views on the Epic platform, theres no doubting that the Batman trilogy of games are pretty damned good. Free games don't get much better than this.

What are the key missing feature we're talking about here? Pretty sure it's debatable. Cloud saving was a big miss imo, but now that it's there, there's abdsolutely nothing i'm missing from Steam in Epic Games Store. I don't use wishlist, i don't use reviews which can be influenced by so many things, from bought reviews to review bombing, i just watch gameplay of the game to make up my mind. I don't use achievements, which to me is just a layer of gamification added to the launcher to turn it into a game, making it a bit more addictive, which i find insidious.

Yah like said I not fan of all these "launchers" but the Batman trilogy for the pc for free? I played shit out them on ps3 and ps4, And I am NOT a fan of batman games or batman, but I like the Dark knight version of batman and this trilogy
