This just made me think of Adam Jensen for some reason..

The highest thefts are patents, copyrights and licenses, they rob the entire society from technology development, competition and cheaper products. We could have flying cars for free energy long time ago...

Pure-play foundry turned into foul-play foundry.

Nobody's going to spend millions developing new technology if they can't get the money back. Where would the development money come from in the first place if the developers never had a chance to make any profit? From a communist government? Sure, some of it, but if you look at the current world, most of the things we enjoy every day or dream of every day come from private enterprises. In Soviet Union a plastic bag was luxury. On the other hands patents expire in time, allowing everybody to copy the innovations after a while. The expiration time is calculated so that the inventor should have had time to get back their money and them so more to make it worth it. The only problem in this system are the flaws in the American patent and justice system, which make patent trolls possible. I doubt Trump is going to fix that. We are lucky if he doesn't make it worse.

That shot at communism dismisses realities of pre-soviet, tsarists Russia. 100 years ago Russia was poverty stricken, feudal society based on agrarian economy. And serfdom was abolished only 150 years ago. Keep that in mind when comparing it to the West, which beside industrialized economy had nearly endless supply of free resources from their colonies. And similarly with China. These 2 countries have achieved in 100 years what normally takes 500 years. I bet that your capitalist masters don't tell you that 🙂

That is why large corporations, through their politicians, create the law to protect their interests. And they can charge as they want. The biggest discoveries have been made without spending millions on developing, but was sold to big companies and lock up. Like how drug companies were exploiting the market by acquiring decades-old crucial medicines and suddenly raising their prices astronomically. Like ordinary people are building car engines working on water but you not see any company produce car on water (hydrogen has introduced by corporations to maintain the fuel sales model. It is dangerous and difficult to store, better just create hydrogen from the water in engine, but who would buy water?) There are many patents, all bought by corporations and locked in a drawer... Just to maintain their business... Or copyrights what cease 70 years after death of author if he not sold his rights to any company, because if he sold it can last forever... So they created one song and live whole life from it, noone want hear them or noone would come if they do concert, but thats business, big corpotrations tell to use and sell their songs and threaten that will stop cooperate if not, so they play their music and normal (better) artists can not break through... Best was when Apple gets patent on a rectangle shape with rounded corners.. They had to spend millions to develop that... And second thing why they would spend milions on developing new things when there is no competition on old things, imagine if patents could last only half year ... they would have to spend more on developing new things to stay on top...

St. Petersburg was actually one of the advanced places in Europe back then. It's just that the rest of the Russian mainland was backwards beyond measure. After all, the likes of Nobel had to go to Petersburg because the bright minds in the West saw no value in his explosive experiments.

Uh, yeah, in the distant past. Those patents expired ages ago.

Those aren't real drug companies. They are typically small, shady middleman companies that acquire a patent before it expires and try to cash in astronomically. Sometimes the patent might have actually expired, but there simply are no other brands in the market, for whatever reason (like too few users). One of the problems in the USA.

I have no idea what you are trying to say unless you claim somebody invented a micro-fusion reactor, which was promptly hidden by the evil oil industy. I find that highly unlikely. Otherwise converting water into hydrogen and then energy chemically produces less energy than is required to produce the hydrogen in the first place (due to loss), so it's not really viable. You'd only run out of battery really soon and that's it.

That's a valid point I overlooked. It happens. Although it's the inventor's prerogative to sell the patent for good money even if it's only going to be buried.

The ridiculous problem in the USA I was referring to.

They would have no money to develop new things. Anybody can wait half a year for most things. Another company that didn't spend a dime on product development would simply copy the product and sell it cheaper. End of the story for the original company that had to use considerable money to design the product.

Patent laws getting changed for the better is probably about as likely as monopoly laws getting revisited.

Actually this is more linked to politicians, lobbyist (petroleum, gaz company etc ) that linked to company stealing patents and technology.. Chineses are way faster to put any technology on the market that any other country. ( and even on green energy they are now way in advance over many other country ( starting by US who anyway will pedal backwards during thoses next years )... be sure that China will control every market of the green energy, letting only dust to other one before 2025-2030... ( as they have done allready with solar )

and destroying the environment while doing that. why do you think all those US brands all of a sudden have tainted toothpaste, pet/child food and so on. because china dumps their trash/waste wherever they want, which then leads to heavy metals etc ending up in soil/water which is used to grow stuff being shipped around the world. just because someone uses a led powered by solar to light up their plant, doesnt mean that those things were produced with the environment in mind... germany recycles waste at almost 90%, fulfilled the 2020 goals for green energy already in 2013.... just stop subsiding the gas prices and raise them to the "real cost" of around 10$/gl, and we wont even need new roads for the next 20y because of less traffic, have less accidents, less pollution... and can then spend that money on public transportation.
