This board in theory makes no sense but in practise it makes lots of sense. Why? Because there are people who like computers and have so much money that 2200 dollars is pocket change for the them and they are the ones who are going to buy this. This is just a reflex of our current economical situation were the people with money are getting even richer and people without money are getting even worse...

1) after distrusting Gigabyte for 10 years (unannounced spec changes post reviews, etc..) and laughing at them entering the psu market, after long examination i bought the X570s Aero G which is awesome. they can build a proper mobo. 2) there is no reason now or ever to buy any Z690 motherboard. wait for next year when Meteor Lake comes out with the advantage of less expensive DDR5 (economies of scale) and a far more powerful CPU with all the compatibility bugs ironed out. and doubtlessly a new chipset. 3) i run a custom loop and had been an hedt guy (until 5950x). this z690 mobo costs as much as my 5950x, X570s Aero G, EK-Quantum Kinetic FLT 120 pump/res, RM 850 psu, (2x) Crucial P5+ 2Tb pcie 4.0, Black Ice Nemesis 420mm, primochill 280mm, and a 12-pack of hard tube fittings. which is pretty freaking high end by itself. only mu GPU (6800xt) pushes it past the cost of the z690 mobo by itself.

I recently played forza horizon 9hrs straight..average power usage at the PSU 620Watts, my room temp was barely warmer than the other rooms, when I was air cooling even with less watts I had to stop and open the windows or I would sweat, now it's not an event at all, thats what liquid cooling is for
600 Watt heat is 600 Watt heat. Unless you run the water to a different room, the room you are sitting in will heat up the same, no matter what type of cooling you use. Only if you sit on the pc or the exhaust air gets trapped under the table, will aircooling be hotter to game in front of.

it looks like he's using a swimming pool as the reservior.it's gonna give that heat back to the room, but over a longer period of time.

or I can also purchase something good and still be left with a lot of change....

How how many pcs they will produce and sell ? 100 ? Max. For 100 fanatics . Good job GB. Maybe better focous on better BIOS updates ?
200 (the board in the picture shows the number on it), and these are usually sold out as soon as they are released. They usually get snatched up by people who sell super-high-end custom loop builds where the owner has no price limit such as GGF Events - they'll end up in some special case that InWin is only making 10 of at their booth at some convention, usually. I imagine the people like him are buying multiples of them for future builds.

The only reason's I spent as much as I did on my ASUS DARK HERO, was for my 5950X , and DOCS but 2200 dollars for a MB , good reason to show off

Granted, it is a beautiful thing, but you sometimes need to wonder if motherboard manufacturers have lost their minds? Gigabyte is releasing the Z690 successor to the Z590 Aorus Xtreme WaterForce mot... For 2200 USD You Can Purchase this Gigabyte Z690 Motherboard
People that actually have money dont care, for their hobby, 2K or 10K. Even normal people that buy once for 10 years, sometimes buy the top of the top so it lasts longer

Tbh, PC hardware is a relatively cheap hobby. Compared to hi-end audio, where separate components can go for more than $10k ea., its nothing.

yes, but high end audio doesn't have chipset changes in a year. you are of course right overall but as an audiophile i had to pick that nit

- saying custom loop users only care about aestethics 1st then performance wrong let me sum it up for you, a 150w cpu is hot a 300w cpu is burning hot, not only will your computer become an oven but if you try to air cool that kind of hw all that heat will get dumped into your room and in a hot summer in a country where people don't live in air-conditoned freezers like north americans this means you can end up with 38°C in the room...guess how I know ! 4K video encoding with a threadripper + nvenc for 9hrs straight in august that's how and that's when I went custom loop, that was pre RTX3000 now that 400w+ gpu are "normal" you will be in the same situation we are at a threshold at which air cooling is just not doable anymore, if you have air-conditioning good for you but cooling that "opened door oven" won't be free a custom loop has several advantages 1) the heat exhausted by your computer case is only a few degrees above liquid temperature, rather than being an hair dryer set on hot 2) with a custom loop the main heat is instantly extracted out of your case, less hot air in the case means cooler vrm, memory sticks chipset etc...also cpus and gpus because 50+°C air case (sometimes 80°C under the memory because that's where the power stages of a gpu are) is not better than my 30-35° (right now my liquid is at 28°C vrm 36°C gpu 26 cpu 35 the air exhausted is very slightly warm) 3) temps on components almost immediately goes down after heavy use unlike air cooling, at the end of a 3dmark benchmark in 10s or less my cpu,vrm and gpus are back to their idle value as if nothing happened 4) a custom loop isn't really quiet if you want proper cooling at max usage but it's definitely quieter than air cooling at low-mid usage for way better temps (30-50% lower temps for half the noise)
You really ought to learn a thing or two about thermodynamics before posting this kind of "educational" post lol. If you are worried about PC heating up your room you are not doing any less heating with water or air, the net is exactly the same. Only thing the water is doing is being more efficient at it meaning it exchanges heat faster and also itself acts as a heatsink volume. If theres a CPU that is converting its activity into 300W of heat then thats 300W of heat being displaced either by air or water and there is no way around that in terms of heating the environment (room) that its exchanging to. Why do we use hot water in the radiators to heat up homes in the winter, cuz its inefficient for heating up rooms? 😀 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_energy

-- If you really want to go in the deep end, some audio components can cost more than changing a $2000 mobo every year for the rest of your life. 😀 https://www.aperionaudio.com/blogs/aperion-audio-blog/20-of-the-most-expensive-amplifiers-in-the-world
oh yes... but over the years i found a happy place with McIntosh, Meridian, Audiolab, and Focal by just buying for my needs and i'm generally done with it for 10 years or so. i kept my Meridian M80's (powered stand-mounted speakers) & Meridian MCD for 15 years ... all during which my friends were buying different CD players every 2 years because the sound "just wasn't there" when they played the same CD at their house. but yeah steep entry price, but if you're just looking for sound instead of prestige or competition/ chasing trends you can be done for a generation. especially with integrated amps/receivers you can get a quality of sound by paying just a little more (but still under $1k) that you'd have to spend 2x-3x to beat. hell a Marantz/Denon receiver can be had under $500, but you would hear a difference at the (very close) next level with Cambridge Audio, Audiolab, and Rega. if you can find it, the PS Audio Sprout II really shines and is a category killer. i have to give a shout-out to the dacs in all of the above (except Rega, no dac). so when i buy high end, it's for the quality not because it's shiny (but its that too) without going crazy. i've been both spoiled and fortunate to have worked in consumer electronics for many, many moons and rarely paid street price. that said, it still wasn't cheap and those M-80 speakers i bought in '84 are gracing the living room of my niece so the return on investment was phenomenal.

My HD650s are almost 20 years old. I won't buy another pair of headphones until they die on me.

Seems some people never checked Air Conditioning prices (+ adequate windows/doors to isolate your place). it is not expensive compared to burning money for tuning your computer every year.
