Or better yet.. medium range video cards? what medium range video cards? there are no medium range 20 series or 30 series video cards, only varying levels of ultra high end video cards... the price is what dictates what is considered medium range and these are not priced as medium range video cards.

Medium range video cards dictated by their actual prices are GTX 1050 Ti and RX 550.. 2021 ayyy..
You know the funny thing about the price gouging.. I was actually eying the PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon Edition 8GB, I think it was close to $300 when I was looking at it... now it's $599
Ain't that the truth.... gosh you could build a really nice pc for the price of this one video card.....

Yep, PC gaming is dying. I never thought I'd see it happen.

Miners have a higher threshold. They are willing to pay more than those who do not mine. Scalpers are able to adjust prices quicker due to a lack of purchase contracts. The AIBs are playing catchup. Say what you will, scalpers fill the gap created by how much slower the AIBs are able to react. The more often this occurs, the bolder scalpers will become when setting prices. AIBs are learning from this as well. Purchasing contracts will start to take into account how fast scalpers are able to react thereby allowing them to react faster. Eventually scalpers will be phased out because AIBs will be able to react just as quickly. Only at that point can one squarely point the finger and say that miners are the cause. There are more scalpers this time around. Bots are easier to come by and make it easier for both. This artificial segment has grown.

In November I spent £1850 on a 3090 because I got lucky finding some in shops after waiting 2.5 months for a 3080, and figured, dammit I'm having the best one.
I had to bite my lip hard, not because I cant afford it, it just seemed an insulting price level, but what else could I do?
I figured I can make this card last 4 years instead of 2, bringing the cost down to normal levels per year, not so bad.
With whats happening now, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have any card at that price!
I feel for everyone still trying to get "any" graphics card at all, this is madness.
My worry is...
PC gaming might become so expensive that people stop upgrading in droves and migrate to console or other hobbies, with knock on effects.
And those who stick with it will upgrade less often.
With a "LOT" less sales, many PC hardware companies will either raise prices, cease production (of certain items) or go out of business.
With less gamers, the lower volume of games sold could see gaming companies fold or limit their portfolio meaning a lot less games. They might even raise prices too!
PC gaming will lose so much consumer value with higher prices, less products and games.
Companies raising their prices to ridiculous levels could well be ending our hobby and their own livelihood.
Greed.
