For those interested, I have just added some Ryzen CPU results.

Do you need a CPU that has SSE4.1 or 4.2 or whatever old CPU's lack? Have a Phenom 965BE running around 4.0GHZ and no issues on most games.

Vega doing great in this title Nvidia will likely get a little faster with a driver update or two but overall performance is great out of the box. It's nice to see lower end cards like the RX460, 1050 and 1050ti handle ultra 1080p that good. Set the game to mostly high settings and go a little light on AA and even budget PC's will have great IQ.

Oh you are right, I just looked at the water now and it does look better. Thanks for pointing it out but you already did a good job in all the testing, probably soon you can find comparison screenshots for all the settings on the net too if one (I) wants to check.
I have added another set of screenshots, showcasing image quality, all downloadable in uncompressed quality.

Thanks for the write up Hilbert. This game has gone on the list to buy me thinks 🙂

Prince Valiant:

Strange to see 4C/4T doing a little better than 4C/8T.
Not as strange as you might think. Remember, hyper-threading does not run tasks in parallel. Depending how the threads are allocated, you can actually lose performance because one thread could be waiting for another one to finish. When you have all threads running in parallel (as they would be forced to do in a 4c/4t CPU) you can't encounter this affinity/scheduler issue. I'm a little bit surprised this game wasn't optimized for HT/SMT, let alone more threads, when you consider console hardware.

Is this tested with 18.3.4?

For the past few days we have been nagging Nvidia for a driver, they had nothing available, however, will release a new WHQL driver on Tuesday. Once that driver is out, we'll revalidate the GeForce card results and see if there are any gains to be found in performance. AMD has provided their 18.3.4 driver, which will be released Monday night March 26th CET. Interesting, so Nvidia cards could perform even better as I see this, AMD cards are already optimized.

Strange seeing a GTX 1080Ti is recommended to play at 3840x2160 when based on the results a GTX 1080 seems sufficient.
Where did you see that? According to the official system requirements 4K/60fps requires a pair of GTX 1080 in SLI mode. This is in line with Hilberts benchmark results where the stock 1080 only achieves ~40fps. http://blog.ubi.com/en-GB/far-cry-5-pc-specs-system-requirements-revealed/

I guess it depends on what you find acceptable? A GTX 1080 sits in the 40fps domain at 3840x2160 which I agree is very playable. Most (I believe) 60 fps is the more 'acceptable' norm for that resolution.

Woohoo! 4K 48fps lock ultra, shadows low...fun times are here again yey!!!:):):):)

Hilbert, what’s the actual individual CPU core usage like in this? Does it max out one CPU core like previous titles or is the workload more evenly distributed across available cores this time? Great review as always 🙂

As it seems 1070 sli / 980ti sli is more like it they are exaggerating by asking 2 1080.

Damn, the graphics! I swear it gets so much better every year. I seems it was yesterday i played gta vice city and was amazed at the sunrays popping in. Far cry 3 isnt so old and just look at this, its leaps forward! Soon we´ll have photorealistic graphics. Damn.

Sub par non-gaming graphics cards doing rather well wouldn't you say? 😉

Gangsta on one core, sweet on the others. No, fair point. I just added a graph to the CPU chapter displaying that. One core gets hit the hardest, but overall there is some proper threading going on. The screenshot is in-game, not the benchmark.
