The cybercrime specialist warns that malicious parties can work with the data.
Facebook itself is a malicious party.

I've downloaded the UK leak (11 million) it's not as much data as that, it's full name, city/town, mobile phone number, some have occupation and relationship status, and that's it, no email or DOB Also it doesn't include everyone, for example my gf's family use FB, but only one of her brothers was in the leak and it was extremely old info from dead accounts with a phone number he changed years ago, she wasn't there and nor was her other brother

Pre-internet, we were only exposed to local idiocy and individually, if one made an ass of themselves in public, that was pretty much the end of it. We had it so good back then. Blissful ignorance.

With my FB account clocking 14 years expected to be present on the list, but no not listed at all. 1st World problems I guess, worrying about data breaches with hackers finding way's into supposedly secure systems.

Facebook should be shutdown. It's a government hub for Info. Also the owner must be an alien with a head and haircut like that, only an alien could attempt to pull that off.

Back in the late 90s, when I was starting to get on the web (by the hour, at internet coffee shops) I thought the Internet, access to information and easier communication with almost anyone in the world, would make people smarter - or at least less ignorant - and maybe even more empathetic. Better. I was so convinced. I was wrong. I was small, naive and optimistic. Internet access made people smarter and more empathetic who would have been that way anyway. For the rest, the villains, and the village fools, technology has only brought them together and given them a voice, brought out the worst in them. A vocal and dangerous minority.Yet they have the right to be heard. Democracy at its finest. Some things never change. Shutting down Facebook will be to them like taking away the pacifier from the toddler with the crapped diaper. Will cry even harder and start smear everywhere the content of the diaper.

I deleted my FB in 2016, I searched that database and I found my email in that breach , wtf FB? And this breach was reported in 2019, 3 years after I had them "wipe" my account.

I am relieved once again for not opening an account from the beginning.

If I recall from when I did it years ago there is a difference between "closing" your account and requesting actual deletion. The latter is supposed to remove your data but I would not at all be shocked if they didn't. I don't think it's a question anymore if our data is floating out there, because from one breach or another it likely is. We all should just assume it is and try to protect ourselves as much as possible with that in mind.

Yeah we failed with the web. It was never supposed to be a place for rxxxtards to bring their real world concerns to, nor a place for politics or culture wars, nor a place where you stream your life 24/7. It was supposed to be the place for discussions between tech nerds and geeks and people that are able to follow simple netiquette. To make things worse, we now have big corporations and governments involved. Abhorrent and sad. We truly failed with this project. Should probably specify I am talking about netiquette as it was understood when the web was younger, not the definitions I'm seeing on top of google adapted for 2021 idiocracy.

I don't get what the problem is. The data was being sold to companies and propaganda-pushers anyway. The only difference is now Facebook won't be profiting of it. I see this as a net gain.

Even when you delete your profile or they delete, all of the info is still there. So happy Nazibook is being sued right now. Don't with Suckerbuerg.

From what I understand an account is never wiped. I made one in like... 2008 I think, then realized I didn't need it and deleted it... at least what I thought was "deleting" in 2009, and then a few years after that kept getting emails about activity on it all the way up to about 2016 where I created block lists for my email including anything relating to facebook or any of it's servers or ip addresses.
