I would advice getting a 7950 and overclocking it by quite a bit.The few so far i have had overclock really well. 1. Battlefield 3 should be at max and around 60fps but avoid using AA in BF3 its creates mouse lag and because the game is now poop performance wise AA will drop it under 60 on a fair few maps 64 player even with a 4ghz clock on that 4670k. Also Skyrim you should be able to max but if you want 2k texture mods and some of the ENB packs or full conversions even a 7970 will struggle. 2. Its not that much of a upgrade over a clocked up 7950 but if you do use OpenCL for rendering like i do it can be a bit of a performance bump and worth the money. 3. I don't think there are any Nvidia cards at a 250-300$ price point that would be better unless you can find a 670. 4. Some mite say wait some mite say go for it but i chose a new 7950 and its changed my gaming experience by quite abit coming from the 6800 series. And if you are referring to the September because of the new cards its just a announcement or press event i don't think it would be a launch of a new card for a few months. Edit.Of the card mentioned try for a MSI 7950-7970 or a Sapphire model most of there cards are not voltage locked so you can clock it like nuts.

Personally I would also grab a 7950 and OC it.

I would grab an unlocked 7950 and OC(at least 1.15GHZ_core) the hell of it.

3. GTX 760 and GTX 670. They compete with HD 7950 boost and HD 7970, respectively.

Um no the 670 does not even come close to a 7970.... 680 = 7970 And he's overclocking in which case the 7950 beats 760...and equals or betters the 680.

Yeah... just no. doesn't work like that I'm afraid
This. I honestly believe that if you put a 760 vs 7950 using the most recent drivers the 7950 will get the advantage. And if doesn't it will surely do while being overclocked at it's full potential. Who's with me?! 😛c1::pc1::pc1:

Thanks guys. Have AMD gpu prices been dropping for a while or did I decide to build a pc at the right time?

The new series will come in Set/Oct. .If you need to compute now then go with the 7950 3GB for sure and OC the hell of it.

Pill even those are outdated lol

Yeah I know, the last 7950/70 they tested was way back in October last year. Drivers have only improved since then.... 🤓

Guys they were referring to the 670 not 760 which 670 performance is right between the 7950/70 and so is the price.

I love how this is still debated so much. How do some people not know where the cards sit performance wise by now?

I believe that even if those cards we to trade blows, which they are not. you should look at performance you assume to get versus price to get best value. If performance / price does not concern you, then you do not need to discus anything and you just have to grab Titan. I consider two high end cards worth buying now: HD 7950 / GTX770 (not so much anymore after last AMD's discounts) And then nicely priced HD 7990, but you may as well get 2x HD7950 which would be equal and much cheaper.

2x 7950 wouldn't be much cheaper than a 7990 over here. What are the prices like in the Czech rep?

You guys are funny the higherarchy of cards mid-mid/high is as such 760/7950 boost these trade blows 760 edges out the win at stock but we know what the 7950 can do with more core. Both are around $250-280 670/vanilla 7970 most of the current non-Ghz 7970's are voltage locked so overclock is very limited. The 670 at reference is a good performed but when overclocked (which most 670's will do a 25% overclock on both core and mem) will give even overclocked 7970Ghz a run for there money. Both of these are in the $300-$350 range 680/7970Ghz/770 the 680 if you can still find one is a very stout card and the 770 is the same with a bit better VRAM the 7970Ghz is just a monster for the money when overclocked and can nip at the heals of the 780 $350-$450 Now I just checked prices and AMD seem to have cut another $30 off of their cards but no free games ATM nvidia is offering one free game with their cards so even though AMD cut the prices they are technically making more profit on these cards than befor.

Sapphire is currently only one who has lowered price here, it's 18500Kc (950$ with tax.) for HD 7990. MSI HD 7950 OC BE is here for 5700Kc (290$ with tax.). So you can have 3 for price of one HD 7990. And 7990 dropped price from 24000Kc (1230$ with tax.) while price mentioned for HD 7950 is there for quite few months, so I expect it to drop a bit based on how many of those are in stores. Edit: btw, that HD 7950 includes: Crysis 3; Bioshock Infinite; Farcry3 : Blood Dragon
