Pretty much the only way I can see this being legit is if Sky owned a VOIP service called SKY:Plausible Electrocomunication Time for another Microsoft Rebrand

I hate Microsoft as much as the next guy, but this is too much...If the EU hate MS so much they should - WAIT! Are we getting fired up over a 5 year old story?

The case was filed 5 years ago, it's taken them this long to come to this ridiculous decision

I like how they claim the 2 logos are too similar, even though aside from using the letters S, K and Y....they are completely different. In the original article, they claimed to have done a poll and people stated that they were confused by the "Skype" name, even though in 2011 most people knew what Skype was. Hell, even my grandmother knew what Skype was and she was as computer literate as a rock and had Alzheimers.... To me, this ruling (as is my feeling about the first) looks like the EU is insulting all EU citizens by implying that they are not competent enough to recognize 2 completely different logos and services as being unique.

I don't want to comment on the subject of discussion, the ruling, in any way, but my friend, what you describe is a daily practice. 😀

Wow. Just when you thought the EU couldn't get more ridiculous.... there was this. The UE is ruling on who owns the rights to use a particular sequence of letters in a brand name now?! That's like ruling on who owns the rights to use "i" at the beginning of a word.... like, oh I don't know... let me think about... iPod. Just as ridiculous but in a slightly different way. I suppose they're going to rule on what kind of corporate mascot(s) a particular company is allowed and/or not allowed to use now. Want to use some variation of a cute cartoon bunny as your mascot? Sorry but that's owned by easterbunny.ridiculous now. You'll have to pay them a licensing fee if you want to do that. Time to go patent abstract concepts boys!:infinity:

This battle has been ongoing for over 10 years. Love how companies are forced into these stupid arguments to prevent them from losing any and all ability to use a commonly known trademark/moniker. Never thought society was able to kill off trademarks; genericide...love the word.

The only thing I know about Skype, is that Microsoft Updates keeps on wanting me to install Skype bloatware on my computer even thou I keep trying to hide it. :thumbdown

It's like patent system in US. Nobody knows what drugs are they using.

Guess who pays for all this in the end?

Stupid ruling, Sky & Skype are clearly different, I don't think anyone would ever get them confused or think they're related.

Reminds me that iPADs have existed prior to Apple's iPads: http://www.ipad-aed.com/ I wonder why Apple never sued those guys. Or maybe they did... or they're doing it as I type these very words! 😯

Only a mentally challenged individual could possibly have issue distinguishing the two. Sounds like the EU court is filled with mentally challenged individuals.
Well what do you expect from the people who waste their time trying to determine the legal shape of cucumbers. 🙄
