Too wide IMO. 16:9 is wide enough. Dell have a nasty habit of destroying IPS picture quality with a layer of glue of and sand rubbed onto the panel just to make sure you'll never get a clear image. I think they're trying to be ironic or something, pay for colour accuracy, get no accuracy thanks to a layer of sand. Even their claims of 178 degree viewing is rubbish, at about 140 degrees on all their IPS panels I've seen the brightness/contrast begin to shift, even if it is slight it's still happening. I'm still sitting in front of my 23" Ultrasharp thinking "if I had money to waste I wouldn't be using this piece of ****".

Too wide? This seems like a great alternative to eyefinity gaming if you hate the bezels around between multiple displays.

I think an Ultra wide monitor is the way to go for gaming. Race and flight sims would look great with a 21.9 aspect ratio. LG has a 27" with a resolution of 2560x1440. That's the one,or three, I would go with.

As this uses the same panel as LG's EA93 model that's on sale in Korea, the reviews/tests of the panel performance will be interesting.

Why? This is a 2560x1440 monitor that has been chopped at the top and bottom. How is that a benefit to anyone?

Why? Because some people might want to buy an ultra wide monitor and don't have money for screens with that large panels :rolleyes And arguably at games a wider screen is better.

wider might be better but not with an 8ms response time it isn't 😛uke2: give me that same monitor with 5ms or less or GTFO

interestingly, the LG model using the same panel is 5ms

The response time/ms of MOST screens, monitors, HDTV's are bull$hit, just a marketing gimmick, most manufacturers lie. The ONLY way to truly find out the response rate of a panel is by testing it, reading a professional review which will test all aspects & will give you it's response time. Usually the response time is HIGHER than what the manufacturer claims it is...

I have the 23" ultrasharp too and see the grainy sand film you're talking about. Bit of a bummer, screen was priced pretty cheaply though so I couldn't resist.

True. Don't forget about input lag.

Personally, I think the anti glare coating on my U2711 is a little too aggressive but it doesn't detract from the monitor as much as people are saying here. Not to my mind anyway. I like the look of this monitor.

Anti-glare coating can be tricky. The best coating I've seen so far was on my ThinkPad W520 - it's like semi-matte screen. You get no mirror effect, no glare, and at the same time the text is not blurred at all. Anyway I like this new Dell display. If I could see it in real world, perhaps I might buy it.

I could consider it but for a workstation/ office PC.

Thanks; it's the comparison I was looking for.

I have a Dell U2312HM and apart from the aggressive anti-glare coating it's a great monitor. Input lag is pretty low and the response time is fast enough to play anything without any issue whatsoever. And it's an IPS panel after all and Dell already had to cut some corners to get the response time as low as it is without using overly aggressive overdrive settings that often cause ghosting. The monitor has 6Bit color depth and uses dithering like TN panels instead of 8Bit like other IPS panel monitors. Yet even so, there is no comparison to cheap TN panels when it comes to colors and contrast. I still have my old monitor (HP Compaq LA2205wg) with TN panel standing here because I sometimes watch movies or other stuff on it while doing something else on the Dell. The difference between those 2 is huge, the colors look much more natural on the Dell and the contrast is much higher. I'm currently using a black and white tribal as wallpaper and it looks so much better on the Dell.
