Looks like we have something else to look forward to this year
quite interested to see how they fare in market entry versus DDR3...
And how long it will take for DDR4 to surpass it's predecessor...

GDDR4 was a flop.. So DDR4 will be also... No real advantage over DDR3

Wouldn't you need a new cpu and mobo though that supports it?

"The first public demonstration of the Crucial Ballistix DDR4 DRAM modules will be held at the 2013 International CES, January 8-11th."
So which processor did they use for this demonstration then since its the 12th today and i haven't seen anything about a cpu that supports ddr4?
Or maybe i just missed it.
I thought only Haswell had ddr4 support.
Maybe they have Haswell ES?

hmmm according to the interwebz Haswell is only 6-8 months away from release.
If true that would burn if you just bought a high end ivy B.

We're getting there. Although I imagine AMD will probably pull the same thing it did with DDR3 and not actually support for a like a year after Intel starts pumping out stuff. Meaning, probably be like 2015 for AMD fans.

This is why I've been holding back on an entire system upgrade. I'm still using DDR2. Before DDR2 I was using PC133. Before that, EDO.

so should we be excited or not, cause this thread is sending me mixed messages.

Early on timings might be a bit worse and speed will likely not to too different from current higher-end DDR3 modules but it supports faster data rate (If I understood correctly.) operates at a lower voltage and in time will get even faster. 🙂
(It will probably also be quite expensive when it's first released.)
Just as with DDR3 though the timings never changed much AFAIK.
(My first DDR3 kit uses 8-8-8-24 at 1800mhz, expensive but it's still working, ran at 1.95v though compared to current generation 1.5v modules.)

speed is one thing, response time is another, it gives no indication of the RAM's timing...

Although I wouldnt be surprised if desktop chips get pushed back to Q3 later on, but I dont think theres anything to indicate that as of yet.
Where do you get that? All info at this point in time points to an early June release.
