Well, they need to nail the stuff Optane failed on. Optane failed on price to capacity ratio, total capacity and no compelling products in the M.2 2280 form factor. 4KQ1T1 alone is not enough.
Yeah that's why I said as far the price is not too high !

Even if they are cost effective, no one will be interested if they are U.2 drives or max out at 118GB for M.2. That was my point, that price is important but Optane failed for much more than price.

YUP Combining several posts 1. 4GB gen 4 are coming down in price to close to what I paid for my first 1GB SSD. I have been looking forward to gen 5 but have been disappointed with what I read 2. does anyone really spend that much time on sequential read and writes? The speed noticed by the average user is in the random reads and writes. I am not seeing anything like generational improvement in that regard. Hence the GEN 4 is the much better value. 3. Heat on the NVME slot positioned directly beside the graphics card is already a problem ON MANY MB. I understand that graphics chips can run safely at 80 to 90 C and that the new default is to run up to that thermal to get the highest performance OC. However SSD tend to throttle at those temps. AM I THE ONLY PERSON ON EARTH THAT SEES THE STUPIDITY OR THIS ARRANGEMENT???????
It depends though, if you've got efficient airflow in your case it doesn't make a great deal of difference. I ran a Firestrike Graphics Test loop on my GPU and at same time ran Prime95 on my CPU for 45mins and I think my NVMe SSD temps increased by about 5 or 10 degC only (think it was 10) vs system idle temperature, it was a small enough change that I couldn't be bothered to remember exactly the difference, ha! My NVMe is directly above my GPU by only a few mm.

Gen5 so quick at loading games, you can hear the fan ramp to 100%.

It'll solve itself as manufacturing processes improve. Same as with everything in PCs. If you have a good mainboard with a decent M.2 heat spreader, preferably with lots of mass to soak up spikes, it should be fine to just use that. Of course that doesnt really change if its actually worth all the hassle compared to a good Gen4 drive.

Do manufacturers of NVMe SSD's just not listen to people/reviewers when they say 4K Rando W/R's are more important than sequential BS speeds there's no point in having an NVMe SSD with 500000000000MB/s sequential R/W speeds if the 4K Rando's are still stuck at less than 200MB/s

is the problem the "drives" or windows? cause I could swore windows is issue and linux has better 4k random w/r? I dont see point in speed being this fast, for 99% consumers sorta of just benching or constantly transfering large files and other thing most people wont be doing. which why i dont see cost or price worth it. I been eye 2tb WD SN850x lately maybe in years time i wee see if price under 100$.
