Ok. Now I am interested. Which would be the best option out of these to get? As in well either of the 6-core cpus I guess. Great review. Could be my next upgrade step.
Having a 3770K, you might as well wait until the end of the year to see if Zen is what everyone is hoping. Clock for clock not too far from Skylake, decent clocks, and 8 cores at the price of Intel's 4. :wanker:

Didn't see this coming. Came from work, brother-in-law says something about new CPU's released and I was like "are you on about? Not that I know of". It seems he visited Guru3D before myself today. ha!
How come you always get poor quality CPU`s Hilbert, don`t intel like much πŸ™‚
Another very well known review site couldn't even go beyond 4.1GHz. And most sites manage about an OC of "only" 4.3GHz. So I would say Guru3D got a pretty normal or even good sample.

Nice review Hilbert Shame can't be said about the actual product lol I think the performance is about what everyone, if they we're being honest, expected. Its about as impressive as desktop Broadwell was and wow what a lot of money for that 10 core! Β£1400 at OCUK! Even the 6800K is Β£380 at OCUK whereas the 5820K is currently going for Β£320! Can't see many other than peoples who truly need it for Workstation builds. Even as an enthusiast I'm not going to shell that out for it as much as I'd love to say I have a 10 core lol Overclocking looks like it sucks unless you get lucky, or if you have a pot and some Ln2 to play with. Looks like TTL got lucky with his, managed 4.4GHz at 1.301v, however his uncore was nothing special just 3100Mhz. Possibly helps explain why his temps where so good compared to others Hilbert, what was your uncore running at during the tests?

Wow, the prices are just insane. I was thinking to replace my trusty 3930K with the 6900K and expecting a similar price I paid for the former, but man, €1100+ for this version? What's Intel smoking? I really hope AMD can knock it out of the park with Zen at much lower price tags so these prices will finally come down to affordable levels again.

Great review thanks

Dollar goes up, price in dollar goes up too. These things are becoming really unaffordable many places outside the US. The dollar is already up more than 50% in a few years here, and the interest rates are about to go up a lot pushing it even higher. Good thing development is slower than usual, with these prices it'll take quite some time to afford upgrading.

Nice perf. but the prices...!!! Nice review Hilbert ! But the prices....the prices.. do Intel golden up these cpu's?? 6950 cost here in germany 1798 EUR and 6900 is 1129 EUR heahy...who's the 1 that can put his money into something like this`?? I'll definitly wait and see what AMD put's to the table. If their 8 core ZEN is 90% of Intel's 9600 performance at even half the price (ca 600 EUR) then is a AMD WIN for shore!!! It's a clear message of "This is where lack of competition leads to"!!

It's not clear if the dollar goes up or down but in principle you'r right. What I've seen so far: If it goes up EUR prices exponentially goes up, if it goes down then EUR prices drop is almost neglectable -> Intel strategy to make money!

Dollar has been roughly 90 cents since 2015. Before that is was more like 70 cents. Just saw the euro prices 6800k 471€. 5820k is 369€ now this presents one idea to me.

Yeah might as well wait. The cpu should do until then even if it is acting up funny, my system that is. Gone through 3 motherboards and now on Z68 which does not allow dual channel on my ram. So I got 16 gigs of 1886 in single channel.

Doxo Hello, My father is an expert in photo editing must of the time he's using the Doxo program which is optimized to use all cores, and I can tell you with his intel i7-5820K he does not have enough performance, all cores are running at full performance. He would love to get one of these new I7 6950X. Below is a proof: http://s19.postimg.org/k40xi1vqr/CPU_JM.jpg Have a nice day πŸ™‚

Tbh, I don't think it's interesting for me personally. Performance increase over Haswell-E doesn't look that interesting (gaming wise!), and I don't see myself needing 8 or 10 cores in the near future, and anything there after gets a new socket anyway.

I am surprised the old AMD's do not look so bad. I will be waiting for Zen, though the 5820k looks like it would not be a bad option for me $$/performance.

Daaaaaaamn. I know it's an extreme class cpu, but seems more appropriate for workstation loads.

Very good review as always Hilbert , well done ! , thank you for the hard work that involves this reviews , some people just don't appreciate the hard work involved on this type of review. It seems with every generation overclocking is getting harder and harder. But it's 10 core 20 treads beast πŸ˜€ so it was expected , your overclock it's very good Hilbert i know a lot of people got stuck at 4.2Ghz~4.3Ghz on high end water , so you got an better than average sample there πŸ™‚.

Does the 6950X Overclocks well? I can do 4.7ghz @ 1.31v, 4.6 ghz @ 1.27v and 4.5ghz @ 1.24v..Thinking of upgrading my 5960x..

depends on what you want from the CPU, from the review i don't think it will make much difference in gaming, and if you can overclock your 5960x to around 4.6ghz vs 4.2ghz(sweet spot?) BWE, The 5960x would be faster per a core. this cpu seems more like a workstation CPU than anything.

Going by what I've seen so far you'll be hard pressed to achieve 4.7GHz at 1.31v most seem to be around 4.3-4.4GHz at that voltage. Really the only reason for you to upgrade as far as I can tell is if you could really benefit from the two additional cores. Otherwise there's really no point, unless you just want it and can afford it then just go for it.

I would like to have two extra cores for rendering and encoding videos...As for gaming, I guess I have to sacrifice the lower clock of 6950X...Can't decide..damn...:D
