It beats or it's equal to 5600X . DAMN.

$200 and kicks 5800x's ass in gaming
and the 12400f is 170.
just lol
getting this as soon as b660 is out, just need to see 12700F at $315,that'll be an awesome one too.

That CPU gets a WOW from me.
I recall the fiasco with AMD's3600 and 3600x that it would not run at advertised full clock speed on all cores.
Causing a lot of disappointment to all punters who bought into the CPU.

to put that into perspective my 11400 only gets 575 at that same boost speed in CPUZ. That's quite the IPC leap.

Amazing. It's about time Intel got back into the groove.

Interesting.

Great little chip.

Nice price for the CPU, but price of RAM for it is very expensive at this time.

In page Core i5 12400 processor review - Performance - Gaming RTX 3090 - 2560x1440 (QHD) (guru3d.com) the highlighted result for Far Cry: New Dawn is not the Core i5 12400 but Core i5 11400F

This is Alder Lake at it's best. When configured right this architecture offers excellent performance with limited core count, just as good as Zen 3. It's still hard to say which to buy for gaming, R5 5600X or i5-12400, since at least in Finland, the B660 motherboards are not that cheap, beginning from ~140 € for now, the cheapest ones being not very desirable. Price of R5 5600X will surely drop in response and you can pair it with boards of excellent price-quality, so I totally would not call this release a victory, but it is a totally competitive and considerable product I could happily recommend too. Good job Intel!
One thing that can be said in defense of this product is the newer PCI-E 5 standard though. We will surely see M2 SSDs that utilize the bandwith sooner than expected, many products already this year, though are they worth buying is a different story.
EDIT. It seems not all 600-series motherboards support PCI-E 5, the mobo maker decides it. For example MSI B660M Mortar does not. In any case B660 boards are limited to only one PCI-E 5 slot. Not sure if you can distribute the lanes from BIOS how you wish.

Yawn

Sounds like the perfect upgrade from my 8600K for gaming. At 5.1Ghz my 8600K scores in CPUZ 600 single core and about 3300 multicore. While the 12400 scores 700/5000. Now, my only issue are cheap(er) motherboards, the B660 and/or H670.

So you get 9900K performance and even better single thread performance.

Is this a viable upgrade to my 8700k as they have the same number of cores and threads
Anyhow will wait for AMD's 3D Cache cpus as I will be upgrading the mobo either way if I were to upgrade. Not interested with DDR5 as I want to reuse my 32gb DDR4.

Undying
Considering 5600x came out more than a year ago its bound to be beaten by a next gen i5. It would be silly and embarrassing not to.
It would be interesting seeing how it stacks up to new upcoming ryzen cpus tho.

We should start seeing leaks soon. Considering most ADL leaks ended up being very close to actual performance, we'll know all there is to know about Zen 4 well before they're announced. The 5800X3D will end up being a gimmick that's going to be forgotten quicker than you can say Cedar Mill.

Wow, great value!
Hey AMD, your turn.
