Undying:

Considering 5600x came out more than a year ago its bound to be beaten by a next gen i5. It would be silly and embarrassing not to. It would be interesting seeing how it stacks up to new upcoming ryzen cpus tho.
the real competitor to 5600x is 12600kf the fact that 12400 buries it is kinda expected given how far ahead 12600kf was it's not that it's uncommon,it's more about amd just insisting to keep the 5600x at msrp intel sold 10600kf's at 30-40% discounts when 5600x came out. That's what they were worth.Even 10700kf was cheaper than 5600x.amd doesn't care.No 5600 non-x,5600x still at msrp. And with 12400f even 30% wouldn't be fair, that thing needs to go down 50%.It's slower than a 180usd cpu and lacks pcie 5.0 not a value per dollar company anymore, and for a while already.that stuff ended with 3600. maybe they're gonna price 5600X3D at 250 and give intel a ribbing again

I think they’re going all in AM5 now. Their reluctance to drop MSRP across their now very much overpriced Zen 3 range seems to suggest they aren’t interested in competing on price, or even competing with ADL at all.

We should start seeing leaks soon. Considering most ADL leaks ended up being very close to actual performance, we'll know all there is to know about Zen 4 well before they're announced. The 5800X3D will end up being a gimmick that's going to be forgotten quicker than you can say Cedar Mill.
Cache for gaming is far from being gimmick. Actually what made adl good for gaming was new improved cache sub system. Not just ipc. Thus i expect that 5800X3D will blow alder, with old cheap socket that is 🙂 However price will be premium

And that is exactly what makes it a gimmick. A price premium on a new-old part that will slightly edge out a current part, meanwhile just a few months later they will release something completely new that - in theory - should steamroll both ADL and this CPU at a much lower price point. It should, because if it doesn't, AMD are in trouble - again.

$200 and kicks 5800x's ass in gaming and the 12400f is 170. just lol getting this as soon as b660 is out, just need to see 12700F at $315,that'll be an awesome one too.
Its a really good value. If in no hurry you might wait it out and see what AMD does with Zen4 since it should be a large generational leap due to a new design on a new process node.

On the opposite , cache is not cheap and so easy to implement. You could google up some old benchmarks of 6 core 4th or 5th gen Intel with higher cache how good it still is right now.

I'm biggest AMD fanboy of all time, but the things AMD is doing now are unbelievable. This 12400 is same, maybe a little better than 5600x, but at the half price ( i'm aware that You need better cooler, and more expensive mbo, but still...)??? What people that lead AMD were thinking??? After 13 Years, they have made CPU that can wipe floor with anything intel has to offer, and now they have started to act like intel all this years??? Same performance - bigger price??? I have bought more than 2000 CPU in my life, and every one was AMD (i have my own computer service for more than 15 Years)!!!! Now i have to think again! I have bought only AMD CPUs because intel was acting like they are kings of the world, and pricing their CPUs like they were made from GOLD! Now AMD is doing the same thing???? If AMD won't decrease prices of their CPU, and i mean ASAP, they will loose their biggest fan! I made an oath (to myself) that Intel CPU will never cross my doorstep, but now i'm doubting that i will respect my own promise 🙂 Sorry for my english....

no surprises here it pretty much does what we expected as soon as we saw the bigger brothers reviews 😛 . Now now ryzen 5600x if you are buying now makes no sense over a 12400 ...the 5600x in my country makes no sense even compared to the 5800x ....the 5600 costs 280 euros here and the 5800x 330 euros ....so automatically the 5600x as is right now is VERY overpriced . As for the gaming resaults nobody with a 3090 pairing this beasts with a 12400 if you can afford a 3090 you slap in there at least a 12700 or 12900 or 5900x or 5950x .... a 12400 etc seems ideal pair with a 3060 /3060ti 6600 6700 ... well assuming the world is filled with unicorns and you can have the cards close to msrp 😛. What i am saying is as far you do not go for a top of the top card gaming performance does not matter -+ 0-5 fps ...who cares ? Obviously people that do it as a sport and they want every last fps they can get they do , but again they will not look on a 12400 😛

never ever ever ever care about the brand of a cpu and gpu ...see the features see the price / performance and decide what is the best purchase for you ! No corporation is your friend !
data/avatar/default/avatar26.webp
AMD is corporation that has one pure goal , make money , like everyone else . Open your eyes please . They have their position , they will use it . Never ever believe any corporation . They been underdog - they played underdog game. They are in front row now , they play different game. Just look at 6500XT , i mean : 1. How to provide GPU to desperate gamers in miner toxic market ? 2. How to look good at the same time ? ( So gamers dont feel ripped off). 3. How to make huge profit at the same time - from low end gpu ( margins from low end are usally low). Result ? : 64 bit , 4GB , Cheap to produce , small die - not suitable for miners. 200$ MSRP. They make all the points ,and take all the money they want . easy money really.

people forgot the fx-53 was the equivalent to intel extreme editions few years earlier selling for 899 and 999 when amd was top dog again when they are on top they will make you pay for it both companies what we want is both companies to be releasing good products so even if one is a bit ahead we have a good viable cheaper alternative .

Sweet CPU. Intel did a very nice job with this one. Still it's a 6c/12t, if I was on the hunt for new "gaming CPU" nothing less than 8c/16t would be at my aim. Now if only Intel could give us "gimped" 12700F/12700KF 8c/16t without E-cores, most of us here really don't care a bit about those E-cores. Also cheaper 1700 DDR5 boards are desperately needed. AMD, it's your turn... I have a feeling AMD is looking all this from the side smiling, new Ryzen CPUs with 3D V-Cache looks very promising. edit For the first time in my life wish Intel and AMD are neck to neck, I mean Adler Lake and upcoming Ryzen 3D V-Cache CPU's. That way AMD, maybe, wont charge extra-extra for few % advantege. AMD really needs to drop down prices at least for 5600X and 5800X right now, but probably they won't (much) until 1700 boards and DDR5 become reasonably priced/available.

Very nice CPU but it has two big problems, the overall platform is too expensive and there´s no overclock. If we could overclock it i think i would consider it. As for AMD´s prices, they are really too high now that Intel as something as good or even better but there´s the possibily that AMD can´t lower the prices because of TSMC´s lack of production capacity to meet demand from all their clients.

this reminds me of my little i3 Sandy Bridge that wiped the floor against amd phenom ii x4 955 black edition for only $79.... Little Beast. amd needs some some fast budget stuff now!....5600x = $99 now....they still want $289?...Lol

They still want and they still sell. That is the problem.

Hey buddy don't get me wrong I would like to have a new 5600x setup however there's no justification for the price tag....it is literally worth $130 - $150 now....

Yea , but these days doesn't matter how much something is worth. Its just wishful thinking. AMD has better ( widely adopted and cheap platform ), results in overpriced CPUs that sell pretty well. It's well calculated. AMD is doing Intel right now and they are not going to stop any time soon. Just wait and see 5800X3D price. Im gonna bet on 500EUR

how about we agree to disagree buddy....this little i5 12400 is going to wax ass and sell like hotcakes @$179....just like my old Sandy Bridge i3 it is literally kicking butt on high end stuff from 1 year ago!...IPC

Well yeah considering the 5800x lunch with 499 msrp the 3d version 1 year later lunching the same seems logical , if only amd treat the 5800x like it is the never released 5700 price it officially at 300 and 5600 at 200 .... But this will happen only if they can meet demand and start having more stock than they can sell
