Personally I got a Corsair RM1000(i) - Honestly I don't think I ever need a new PSU after I bought that one - for my personal rig anyway. I bought it for €190 when it came out - it has 7 years warranty, so I could buy 5 of em and srill have cash to spare, and 35 years warranty 😀... I would never spend 1K on a PSU, it's just bonkers even if it was made fully out of gold they could keep it XD
I love mine too. Even bought some nice sleeved cables for it. And it's actually one of the best PSUs out there, unless something goes wrong I plan to keep this for at least 5 years. But this... $1K lmao. It might as well have a Japanese engineer inside of it. :O

@LesserHellspawn just because its a "brand" name, doesnt really mean its a quality unit. most of them buy psus from other companies. as far as i can remember, only around 30% of the whole psu's out there, are actually made by the company on the label/sticker... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913-4.html http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/PSUReviewDatabase.html besides that, protection/components improved a lot in the past 10y. back in 2006 a dying superflower psu (3 month old) killed my board (ocing board from asus). the corsair that died in 2012 (after 5y), just wouldnt boot the rig anymore, without damaging any components...

The great thing about capitalism is there's a product for every buyer. Just because you can't afford something or would rather spend the money on something else (see: can't afford), doesn't mean there is anything wrong with its existence. In fact, pushing the limits of what can be done is how innovation occurs which improves everyones products in subsequent product cycles. Im sure everyone here remembers when the Bugatti Veyron hit the market. Insane car, insane performance, and insane price. But the things VW learned while making a car of such capabilities has in many ways influenced countless cars produced today. Funny thing is, i sent this link to a friend of mine who was talking to me about building him a new system in the coming months and its on the short list for the PSU the system is going to have. The $1k price tag is nothing to a guy who drives a loaded Mercedes SLS AMG Black and a Range Rover that cost almost over $200k. The cost to him of having a PSU failure along with the downtime makes buying such a PSU a no brainer.

My $99 XFX going strong 5 years now.
In all seriousness 5 years of the type of use users like us put a PSU through means it's nearing time to replace it. It's definitely degraded a notable amount at this point. Mine is also over 5 years old, maybe 6, I've lost track. The capacitors won't be able to handle what they used to, and the PSUs won't be as efficient overall, they'll draw more overall power to deliver the same power to the components which they're supposed to. I'm going to watch for sales on high end PSUs and if there's a good one I'll replace mine. A lot of my power supplies in the past have died before I replaced them because they died long before they should have, regardless of how "great" of a quality part each was supposed to be. I don't want to go through that again so I'd rather replace this one before that happens.

No. Why would there be reason to? It's extremely overpriced with lackluster performance.. Read review on jonnyguru if you want a review.

Its expensive for sure, but its also custom made in Japan. Japanese electronics are typically expensive but last forever, like old consoles. The Made in Japan ones still work fine 25 years later even if you beat them up, while Xboxes and iPhones fail if you look at them wrong.

Moot point considering you can get better performance with similar build quality for less such as Super Flower Leadex II Platform or Seasonic Prime Why would anyone want an average performing PSU that can last for 25 years when you can get an excellent performer with a 10year warranty for only 25% of the cost? You would have to be borderline stupid to buy this thing.

Made in Japan does tend to cost more than Made in China. Im not aware of any other Japanese made ATX PSUs. I do spend extra money to avoid buying stuff thats made in China all the time. Sometimes its a lot more than 4x the price to do so. But if people didnt automatically buy the cheapest stuff they could, higher end stuff wouldnt end up being so expensive to compensate for its smaller marketshare.

Assembled in china vs assembled in japan makes no difference on high end parts.. To be frank, the majority of the components in such as leadex or seasonic are Japanese parts... So to spend 1000 to have a PSU assembled in japan is dumb. To put it simply. The 1000w is garbage compared to EVGA G3, T2 series, prime, etc for the price.. Even if it costed the same it's still not anywhere as good as a PSU. Argument that it lasts 25 years is not an argument.. I dare say by then we will have totally different types of PSUs with different connectors.
