Noctua killer?
data/avatar/default/avatar35.webp
Probably not, the spinning needs to be quick, but metal produces a lot more noise than plastic, so i doubt it would kill Noctua (maybe it could but i doubt you can stay in the room). 🙂

What is there to kill ? My Noctua NH-D15 is ultra silent. In fact, it's almost noiseless even after cooling my i7-4790K (4.4 GHz turbo - 70 deg C max) during 5 hours Aida64 stress test.

This design will suffer from failing bearings from the heat drying out the bearing grease. Bad design I think, There adding problems for a few extra degrees of cooling.

Did any of you skeptics saw prototype in action, guess not. Im looking forward to this design, it looks very effective for what it is.

Cool, but need more details.

That heatsink might vibrate badly if it isn't balanced properly, so it may be an very expensive heatsink because of that little detail.

Hasn't magnetically floated heatsink fan combos been posted on the news here before?

Wasn't something like this posted 2-3 years ago? It's nothing new, just hasn't been worked out yet for production.

Just the look I've been after for my PC, half an old vacuum motor strapped to my board

Got it. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=348101&highlight=heatsink The fanless spinning heatsink: more efficient and immune to dust That was experimental though, this is might be rolled out and produced. Still a prototype though. I skimmed the white paper, it's the same people! Guess cooler master took interest.

The about sums it up pretty well.

There are greases made to take "extreme" temperatures..... The bearing failure risk depends on what type of bearing they choose to use.

Just steal one from your moms or wife's Dyson vacuum cleaner.

I remember reading about this design quite a few years ago and didn't think it would see the light of day. Guess i was wrong. It's going to need super precision manufacturing tolerances.

Why do you say that? Last I checked, the bearings in hard drives spin far faster and typically outlast the rest of a drives components.

If they start putting this in laptop's I can imagine the number of people getting their fingers cut by fooling around and opening their laptop's.

Not that many people do that as it is though. And even less people would do it while its powered on with the blades spinning.

this was announced what 2 years ago? and just now it licensed by some one? are we actual gona see this retail and with review with in the new 2 years? I all for quieter and small hsf solutions.

they can put some kind of protection to avoid people getting their fingers in. That would suck for cleaning and most people would have to remove it, but eh, its their responsability after doing so 🙂
