If the rumors are true, the influx of cash from these consoles might just help AMD with their money issues.

If they have the extra production capacity for it, then yes.
If they have to add another to the existing capacity, then it's a bit of a gamble.

Another set of consoles with the word Jaguar in it...oh no...

^Lol
I thought they were using AMD 6xxx GPU's, pretty sure I read that somewhere....

So basically it'll be down to brand preference rather than actual hardware? Altho I've never liked the Playstation controller so that might also play a role.

Will Crysis 3 run at a decent speed on the PS4?

Alright let´s play some Jag!...
Do the math!

4.70% of entire AMD are Consoles + Professional graphics.
$80M of REVENUE for console royalties in 2012. is barely enough to keep Graphics Division afloat.
Now add say another $100M of revenue for 2013
(bulk of cash on Xbox360 was made AFTER several price cuts, but then again AMD should now supply both CPU and GPU),
and you are still far from filling the $1B+ revenue hole. So yes consoles will help, but they can't make or brake current AMD.
Financials aside, it will be exciting to see developers utilizing all 8 cores, 4GB+ RAM, tightly packed AMD architecture, overall benefits to image quality and repercussions of all this on Desktop and console ports.

I thought it was confirmed that the GPU was going to be AMD based. Sony and MS seemed to have a problem with nvidia.

you guys keep looking at power for port compatibility when that is not the problem. the problem was the different architectures they would use. now if they both use the same as a pc then crappy ports should diminish.

Wouldn't using a pc like CPU be a performance/longevity problem for the console?
I thought what made consoles so strong in comparison to PCs (relatively speaking of course) in the past, was that they had "custom" designed CPU architechtures and stuff?

They want expendable, like the iPhone's

I just hope they give them enough RAM this time around. That seems to be the issue the current generation of consoles are having that keeps growing as time goes on. Skyrim for PS3 is the biggest example but I wonder how many other games had to be scaled down just to fit in that small memory space.

Especially with the price of memory being so low I can't imagine it would be a problem to add 4GB or more, though I don't really think over 4GB is necessary.

Well, if they can overkill with the specs at a good or at least at a bit premium price, well I'm all up for it. Assuming it will be used somehow. 😀
