Nvidia: "Here, boardpartners, is a great way for us to charge 100$ for basically nothing, and don't forget that when you make your customboards, this means you can charge 8-900$ for those, for no reason 😀". Boardpartners: "THANKS NVIDIA!" Consumers: :'(

I don't see how 1080 is "cheap" like many tech sites spamming articles claim on my social feeds. Just because it's faster than previous cards? But it's supposed to be faster anyways. Newer tech always is faster or else we would not talk or be interested about it. I see 800 euros as the EU price. We all know how US dollars price tags translate into Euro. And what is this marketing BS from Nvidia with Founder edition? 100$ more for a reference cooler really? Beside all the bold marketing claims I can't wait for the reviews to come out for both 1070 and 1080. I want to see how they really perform in real games.

At least we get a choice here, that's what it's all about. You can get either one, depending on needs and budget. Now, if there will ONLY be founder editions upon release, then, we can have a good moan about it. Waiting now for sli bridge pricing...

Yes, but they do what they do cuz' you actually buying this "new" GPUs from them :bang: Fans where is your Logic? Skip this one or go for ATI Radeon POLARIS :hatty: Teach them how to behave with YOUR WALLET 😛eeright: They need to learn again how to be honest towards ppl :whip: BTW the 16nm Fin-fet is cheaper in Prodution ! (Learn more from Raja K. there is YT Video with interview, and he's saying that new Fin-Fet (14nm AMD have, 16nm nV) is cheaper than bigger one, cuz' you have more chips from Wafer !!!! ). Where is Full DX12 H/W support? (DX12 now is An 1 Year Old API !!) Where is HDR Renderer pipeline in H/W ! (10 and 12bits) We have HDR UQHD LED quantum dots and OLED's from LG "around the corner"! Why Ansel is not for Maxwell users? Never mind 🤓

Yeah, but, you're going to be waiting a year for their high-end. I'd rather enjoy this new tech this year.

In theory this is true, but not right after launch of a new node, because yields are still bad. Next year when the 16/14nm production has improved and yields come up, this will actually be the case.

One year means nothing. Hardware is in development much much longer than that.

The custom (cheaper) AIB cards will go on sale when theirs enough inventory. If supply is initially limited, may as well find ways to charge higher for it. Business economics, plain and simple.

Full hardware support in terms of what? Pascal supports HDR, it just hasn't been fully detailed yet. Ansel is supported by both Kepler and Maxwell.

another "limited supply" excuse to premium charge a product? we will see how it work in market nowdays well there will dumb people that buy anyway ... in mass production, 2weeks~a month delay can supply twice of initial supply so there no excuse for limited supply "founder edition" that charge extra $100 that even not binned/cherry picked chips one thing to note is that "founder edition" is not limited edition, its just first batch product actually its first time for me, or at least rare enough to find a product get "premium price" by maker ... usually no matter what the demand, price remain same from maker, and retailer the one that rise the price

So, for an extra $100 you get a card that runs hotter and louder???
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/259/259067.jpg
Yeah.Same card, but different cover design.Good one. 😀 Wait for Xtreme version or another custom cooling.

I think you missed another one:this generation have Async Compute or this is just another single thread card?

Yes,pretty much that.

Founders Edition Francis Underwood to the "Founders Edition". In 12 months they will do a "die shrink" to 14nm, raise the clock to 1800mhz/2000mhz boost. TSMC have the capability to do this and stick 8GB HBM2 on top, shrink the card to 8.5 inches sell the "upgraded product at the same price". I'm not buying until I need a new monitor 2560x1440, my existing 980 can run everything I play on my 1920x 1200, 10 year old Dell IPS monitor.

TSMC doesn't have a 14nm process. Their next process is 10nm and volume production starts this year. Also pretty sure a year from now we're going to be talking about Volta. Volta will be fully detailed by the end of next year. Nvidia's contract with Oak Ridge for their super computer is slated to be completed by the end of next year, using Volta based GPU's. Consumer variants probably won't come out till 2018, but we will at least know what the architecture is.

We know its not a 'limited edition'. And you're wrong. The law of supply and demand is a thing many businesses take advantage of. Its only a matter of how creative they can be in passing something off as more than it is. Do some take an ethical stand and stick to prices no matter what? I'm sure there are, but many also dont.. probably most. Cant understand the crack-smoking compulsion of GPU enthusiasts to get something on day 1 regardless of cost when they know it'll be available for less soon afterwards. But Nvidia sure can.. so I say screw them for all their worth.

It's not a new Node anymore ! Fabs was Ready to mass produce year ago 🤓 And Yes it's true, this is cheaper and more Power friendly than old hog 28nm. Watch Raja K. designed for Fin-Fet YT 🙂 Thats why Polaris GPU is 25-45% more powerfull than 28nm part and thats why 299USD for Great performance is 100% Possible 😀 Without ppl with 1080p/1440p DX11/12 GPU's for reasonable price Industry will stagnate -> Developers need to know that the Game they creating will cover as much Users as they can ! (BTW is a interview with some AMD man in YT also & he spoke about it -> here link for YT )

Can't recommend the reference cooler if custom cooler versions are out. I hit the temperature limit more often than I like and it is easily the noisiest thing in my PC. Just oc the card yourself.

The tech they use for GPU fabrication is not the same as phone fabrication. For example TSMC uses 16nmFF+ for it's GPUs. It supports higher currents. So yes, the node is basically brand new for GPU production.

Question is: "How much higher would this thing OC, if it had more than 1x 8-pin power connector?" How are VRMs designed on PCB?

You speak a lot of sense 🙂:):), and this is where i'm also standing strong and not running out and buying two immediately, i want to give AMD a go next time i upgrade , Nvidia are like Intel now and charging whatever they want, even for a product that now cost less to produce. Founded edition = what a load of bull$$$$ .....
