This was a very interesting read. If I was working in Oculus or the like I would be very interested in getting involved in this tech once the prototypes are produced by AU optronics.

the post says 15 volts per pixel... that does not sound right..

Interesting development. I assume the switching method also lowers latency considerably compared to what we currently have. One to look out for on next-gen devices in a few years time.

Why? You don't fancy installing a mini-nuclear reactor at home prior to the usage of such display? =) ;) ------------- 1500 pixels per inch? .... And what would "drive" them? 10x GTX Titans?... Good luck with that.

Anything that helps lower battery consumption in smartphones is OK in my books, and screen is usually No.1 in the battery usage list

Likely a typo and meant to be 1.5V. BTW pixels work in parallel not series. I'd be more interested in the current draw reduction on this innovation.

I just hope this doesn't mean they'll be pushing 8K screens on our phones. QHD is already pretty dumb.

This could be an OLED killer.

for that to happen it has to hit retail.. seeing this was anounced in 2008? which only few years after oLED was annoucned and we still dont see mass oLED displays I wont hold breath. I really would love to see flatpanels with CRT response times with in my lifetime or afford able prices. It does look promising none the less, imo they should not announce new things less they are few months away from retail. atlest when it come to displays of anykind. to many hypes that have yet to be realized.
