if it says dx12 on the box then i'll perhaps be an early buyer this time around.

with that start menu , and hopefully they fix some of its problem , I might consider going back to install Windows 8.1 ....since last time it lasts in my system for three days to discover tons of problems specially with drivers

I run my 8.1 completely un-updated and zero issues. no mods either.

8.2 maybe?

maybe dx12 is the reason...
DX12 is going to be the thing that makes me make the switch from windows 7 at the minute no need to. I have used win 8.1 and i don't hate it but i don't like it either.

I'm holding on to Win 7 aswell untill Win 9 is out.

Seems more like the upcoming update of Windows 8.1 and not Windows 9.

Kernel 6.4 so if it is not yet another 'shop then it refers to the next version of Windows.

In the second screenshot in the corner it says windows 8.1...just saying...

1. Imo it's shopped for the already stated reasons + the Store window doesn't follow MS design guidelines.
2. MS already stated that they're considering various ways of making ModernUI aka Metro apps to work in windows, so they appear to be native apps, work as native apps and are more used by other users who didn't want to run them just because of being full screen / docked
3. MS already stated that they want to provide some non-full-screen alternatives to full screen start menu present in Windows 8 / 8.1, but they couldn't come up with a polished design for Update 1 and didn't want to make people switch several times.
So there have been already enough reliable info to get hyped for Windows 8.1 Update 2 or Windows 9, whichever includes these changes. I wouldn't get hyped just for the arguably shopped screenshots.
I'm mostly interested in these windowed apps. While I really like some of these apps, like Reader and People, being forced to running Alarms in full screen / docked is just wrong. Effectively it prevents me from making ModernUI apps, as I can see people not using them because of these reasons.

On the other hand...
On the other hand MS has never used the name of old Windows version in the watermark of new pre-release version. Thats why I'm not quite sure what this means. What I'm sure about these are not screenshots of final Windows 9, because there should be lots of other UI changes too on the desktop graphics.

From the sound of things, Aug 12 will see the unremarkable Update 2 release and next year should be a preview of the next version of Windows. Due to their workforce and policy changes, leaks are practically impossible now.
It's very likely a fake. They're talking about it on MDL

I'll keep updating my windows everytime there is a new version, because it's my job to support this pile of crap (Windows in general).
But let's be honest here, Windows 8 has a nice back-end to it, some nice updates. But that metro UI..... that motherf***ing metro UI.... I've seen M$ do some pretty dumb s**t. But this Metro UI beats it all. I hate metro UI more than I hated windows Vista, I didn't even hate it because I had the appropriate amount of ram at the time and that was the only thing you could complain about.
Also I can't say that old video games compatibility has been top notch in W8. Not that I haven't got every single game so far to work, but just that some of them required extra effort. Even the very recent Dynasty Warrior 8 Extreme had a lot of work and research involved on getting it to work.
To resume, these screenshots may or may not be W9, but as long as they take off the UI, I'll be a little less of an angry nerd.
PS: Sorry for the colorful adverbs. They are necessary for the portrayal of my deep hate for the metroUI.

It doesn't matter what they name it, it'll at best be Windows 8 with a start menu added back. I'm going to wait until there is a real upgrade from that atrocity.
kenoh
They need to get rid of apps and replace it with programs in the start menu list!
