This is how I got BF4. When maps became free, bought the single game for 8,99€. Now I think it's time to get the BF1, too. Let me check the price first. I won't be paying more than 15€.

You get to play BF1 because of all those stupid people who paid full price for previous BF games.

Fragmented player base or not, they will lose out on season passes and premium if they make this a normal thing to give the maps away for free. There's no reason to buy premium / season passes now anymore for BF games.
I guess that's why they try to make the Battlefront 2 loot box system p2w now, so they don't miss out on the money they cost themselves 😀

My guess is that BF1 isn't selling as well as they had hoped so they are doing this to get some more sales.
Heck I'm a hardcore Battlefield nut and I didn't get BF1... still not interested :/

There are not making maps free for everyone. They are launching "Premium Trials" which was announced a few weeks back. In short, they're allowing non-premium buyers to access premium content during predefined timeframes. Kinda like 2XP events.

I don't care what they do with this game. its boring. I'm not buying anything else. I got the base game and that's it. I bought premium for BF3 and 4, but not this. The only game mode worth playing is operations and 90% of the time I still get dumped in an empty server, so anyway this game is close to dead to me.

I think i made it quite clear in my post that those unhappy about the maps going free and expecting some for of compensation were the stupid ones, it was not a general pop at everybody who bought the SP, just those now stamping their feet. 😉
Expect to see in game microtransactions and costumes as they are doing in the next Battlefront game, and at this stage i am expecting lock boxes and key sales to appear in games soon at this rate.

Given that they (unfortunately) went with premium for bf1, I think (as a premium owner) "Premium Trials" is quite nice: it will revive dlcs' maps during these events and potentially attract new buyers who were able to test before buying.

I can't say I totally disagree with XP-200.
It's crazy anyone is willing to pay more than the already high price of the game itself, just to play more content that should have already been available to the game from the very beginning, for free.
We are going to continue to get mediocrity, microtransactions, and price gouging until people learn to stop feeding into this problem. Why anybody bothers with pre-ordering for AAA titles is beyond me. It used to be a great thing, back when games were installed via discs and were actually playable on release day.

ffs 105 pound on Deluxe and Premium Pass. If i had knew this was going to happen i wouldn't of bothered.
The game is already basically dead that's the only reason DICE/EA is doing this. Late at night after say 1am UK time all servers are dead.
My favorite time to play and it's server death after server death 1am+.

If you ask me it's absolute bonkers they ask € 130,00 for a "full" game. Yet you still have to do with all the bugs, and oh yeah, the DLC will come over the next part of the year when the whole community died because of DLC. The game on PC has a top player count of approximately 25k players between lets say 12.00 and 18.00. At the lowest its about 5k players. Thats insane! This game isn't even 1 year old.
And still people are buying this sh*t. Don't get me wrong. I love FPS games, I grew up with them. But the only thing developers want to get is the people's money for a half baked game.... And people buy it! its insane!! Pre-ordering was cool when you had to wait for the actual disc to play the game, and most of the times the game had almost no bugs. Today it's totally different. And just as with SW Battlefront the playerbase starts to crumble within a year. And all of a sudden EA wants to give people some premium time to "stimulate" the playerbase *cough* sales *cough*. I'm just so fed up with it. I really hope this is going to change soon. Because its not even fun to play the games anymore when you see what they try to do to grab your money as quick as possible.

Wow maps are free....i may buy the base game now...actually thinking about it i dont think ill bother. I get my BF fix from BC2 which not played for over a year. Lots of people playing still and its better than BF3 and 4.
